A note about...notes

Site Update

Hello!

I am here to give a gentle reminder about Breeding Notes when you breed your pets!
First off, artists are not required to follow directions in the notes.

Notes have always been intended to be something to allow users to communicate with artists and gives users a way to provide artists with links to PSDs and color palettes without having the artist start a PM.

Unfortunately, people have also taken advantage of the notes system and treat breedings more like a commission. If an artist receives notes that are treating their breeding like a commission (for example, "the offspring must have X, Y, and Z on it" or "Please use only colors from Parent A and only use the blue from Parent B.") they can message Kaiyo, Vampi, or myself to report it. Users will receive a warning if they are treating a breeding like a commission and giving directions on how an artist should be making their offspring.

Note: Saying something like, "I love Parent A's hair, it's my favorite edit!" or, "Please don't use spiders (or the a specific color, or one thing), I am scared of them!" is not considered giving directions to the artist and you will not receive a warning for things of that nature. When you are listing 2+ things you want on your offspring, or giving suggestions when you use an item that specifically does not need user input (Artist Palette) that is when it begins to be seen as a direction given to an artist.

I also want to note that your prompts for Painted coins should be just that, prompts. You should not have multiple sentences explaining what you would like. A prompt should be a couple of words (10 words maximum) giving the artist a theme for your breeding.

Predictions exist for a reason, if you have a specific outcome in mind for your breeding you should be making predictions and not giving directions to the artist assigned to your breeding.

Kita (#3988) if I Put something in that references the breeding rules of a Patent pet, Like "please no mutant Clone of Parent A," would I risk a warning?

If it's something about the rules of the pet where if the rule says "You cannot use X edit" that is perfectly fine to include in the notes so your artist is aware!

It seems like this should be obvious. I remember a note like this rather recently too and it is a little sad that this is so necessary. My heart goes out to the artists, thank you for what you do!

I always thought they were suggestions if anything myself.. I tend to put things like 'would love if x' but never demanding, I don't even like to demand things in a commission myself, happy with artistic interpretation 99% of the time haha <3

It's fine if you put things like that, linking to the rules would also be helpful for the artist just so they can confirm :) They aren't required to follow those notes either, but you can always use a Dawn Crystal if an edit that shouldn't be is passed on to an offspring :)

Those kinds of things are fine as long as you're not making a list of things that you want or require to see on the offspring :)

I don't think I'd ever made a list of things, usually one suggestion framed as "I know you don't need to listen and I'll love the result regardless but (small suggestion or thing I like/dislike here)" hopefully that's okay?

That kind of thing is alright! It's really just when people become demanding and have a list of what their offspring "must" have and what they absolutely do not want where it becomes frustrating to the artists!

I usually don't do anything except ask for no pastels XD

Yeah I'm.... Tone matters infinitely more than length to me, but that's also because I have an inherent problem expressing my thoughts in a concise manner so there's... that.

As an artist, I actively like-- even PREFER-- a significant amount of direction as long as people are polite.

As a user, I tend to say "my favorite edits are ABCD, though of course you don't need to use all of them", and a particular thing is Cursed Waters can be one of my favorite add-ons, but also one of the worst, because monster aesthetic is extremely hit or miss for me. So I've several times put notes explaining this fact and giving examples of monstery stuff I love and examples of what makes me uncomfortable, making it exceedingly clear that these are directional suggestions and not requirements. It always takes a paragraph or two to do. Longer because I go out of my way repeating that they are only rough ideas and not a list of demands.

The length of this comment kind of became self-demonstrating with the whole "I have trouble being concise" thing. 'x3;;;

But yeah so..... should I just, not use add-ons unless I'm willing to go through the hassle of predicts, or should stuff like that be fine, or?
