Aketch Repellent!

Site Update

Staff would like to give a very special shout out to the folks over in the Aketch Repellent Thread! They have been working tirelessly to try to figure out the Trick or Treating system and recently their search has been fruitful! They discovered through rigorous testing that the trick was not Aketch.. but Greta!

This mischievous Lunaris actually swaps your Karma! So even those folks who have been giving out nothing but candy can still turn to negative Karma once they see her! She's just so sneaky and treacherous!

So once more, a very, very special shout out to that thread! You worked together as a team, and you were able to crack the code! There is still a bit more that they are working on, so if anyone is interested in helping out go on over, their quite the friendly group!
Congratulations guys!

Please make sure you check out the older news posts! It's been a busy day today!

If I understand the principles correctly it seems the best/easiest way to ToT is to treat once, knock until you find Greta, treat twice, knock until you find Greta, treat twice again (everytime you find Greta). The downside of that is that treating, i.e. helping others get candy, isn't really rewarded and it's likely many ToT's will go unanswered due to the time limit... (And in spite of all your knocking you won't get much in return).

A thought for next year, not that I really understand game mechanics, would be to 1) Make Greta steal either candy or karma, thereby lowering karma but not reversing it, and 2) Make it a risk for everyone to encounter Aketch but make the risk and the amount he steals higher the lower your karma... (Basically if you have top karma either 0 or next to 0 chance of running into him but the more tricking you do, or the more encounters you have with Greta, the greater the risk - and the loss...)

I mixed it up here or there, but I only ran into Aketch once. My strategy was simply treating, then tricking, then treating, then tricking, so I guess when Greta would show up, I was close enough to neutral karma to fix it up (unknowingly). People seemed to be stuck on the idea that they could only Treat or Bad Things would happen, so I'm glad to see it wasn't that simple!

I for one think this whole thing was neat and I hope you guys aren't discouraged from trying new things. Taking feedback into account is important (always room for improvement, after all), but I'm sure plenty of people were happy to have an event that was comprised of more than just clicking the buttons in adventure!

I've been tracking the thread since the beginning, and there really isn't enough thank yous for all the agony you guys went through working this thing out. ;__;

I do also want to thank the staff for their hard work and say that it is a nice event.
I am curious to know what the candy is going to, and would presume it really isn't 'optional' if you want whatever the prizes will be.

On the frustrations note- I think folks are upset because Greta can come at any time for no reason... so for example, I /finally/ manage to get 20ish TOTers at my door.... YAY, I CAN GO TRICK OR TREAT NOW.... first door Greta..... takes forever to get 20 more and it becomes very time consuming.... a lot of adult players don't have that kind of time :/
and then what if you go out and AGAIN Greta is nearly first door? I have had this happen now and it is admittedly upsetting... :/

I would also vote for a karma meter of some sort... unless you write it down it is very hard to keep up... and Greta can get confusing too... because at one point I thought I had bad Karma and I hit Greta and thankfully then immediately got good Karma npc's before I could go on yet another treating binge.
... which also means that even though I thought I had done 20 TOTers to fix my karma before, apparently I hadn't...

SHORT VERSION:
If we got a meter we would not have to worry about counting or where our karma currently is.
It's still upsetting to treat like 20 people, get Greta, treat 20 again, get Greta again, etc... but at least we'd know where we were at and how many more we had to do to get our Karma back up.

Does higher karma increase your chance of getting the NPCs that give you candy?

Awesome! I'm glad it's been figured out. Any chance of a karma counter? I've run into Aketch twice now when I thought that I'd gotten back to neutral at the very least.

Honestly the worst part is just not being at the top of the list so you don't get many visitors.
