Aketch Repellent!

Site Update

foodenergy_witchycandy.pngaketch_icon.pngfoodenergy_evilcandy.png

Staff would like to give a very special shout out to the folks over in the Aketch Repellent Thread! They have been working tirelessly to try to figure out the Trick or Treating system and recently their search has been fruitful! They discovered through rigorous testing that the trick was not Aketch.. but Greta!

This mischievous Lunaris actually swaps your Karma! So even those folks who have been giving out nothing but candy can still turn to negative Karma once they see her! She's just so sneaky and treacherous!

So once more, a very, very special shout out to that thread! You worked together as a team, and you were able to crack the code! There is still a bit more that they are working on, so if anyone is interested in helping out go on over, their quite the friendly group!
Congratulations guys!

Please make sure you check out the older news posts! It's been a busy day today!

Conium (#39365) I kind of feel like your second and third point are kind of invalid now the answer has been found and the event is still running. You've been handed the exact solution to how to avoid Aketch getting your candy and there's still more than enough time to go gather them now.
If there had been a karma indicator from the beginning btw, everyone would've been able to figure out the puzzle within ten minutes on their own. I kind of agree this took really long, but you honestly can't tell me where the fun is in figuring it out in ten minutes when it was supposed to be something we'd have to discuss and test. (And in hindsight the fact it took so long was also partly our own fault for way overthinking everything when staff repeatedly said it was something really simple. And for people who didn't participate in trying to figure out the puzzle, well they shouldn't be complaining about it taking so long, as they obviously didn't help either :P)

If you're still wanting to participate, the answer on how to do it is right here and there's more than enough time left to go gather candies. Why not just give it a shot?

AremRae - Treats (#3998) Actually you'll want to treat until you are at 1 karma at least for sure, because Aketch can still reach you at 0 karma. Just figured you'd like to know that :P

You cannot keep Greta away, but you can afterwards make sure to rebuild enough karma so that you're safe from Aketch. If you haven't gathered it from the news post yet, there's several comments in here telling you exactly how to do this so that you don't ever have to encounter Aketch again. It's really not hard once you know how it works ;)

As someone who was in the group that was testing theories, you can beat I had an INSANE amount of moments of anger and sadness over the event, even said nasty things myself (Rage is a icky thing).
But, it really does feel good to have been part of it. I don't have the ability to think much anymore, and this gave me the opportunity to push the limits I still have left without causing too many problems, and as frustrated as I was, I am still thankful for it. And Grats to everyone I was working with and helpers that weren't even in the thread, because ya'll helped too! Don't think you aren't noticed!

For anyone wanting the easiest way to find out how much karma you have, just give out about 42 treats. You'll be at the +20 cap. From there you will easily know where you are. When Greta hits, you'll be at -20... Then you just give 21 more treats and bam, you are at +1.... a number that's easy to follow and get back to should Greta show up again.

NyctiCorax - ToT (#1965) I do understand how it works, thank you! I might try again later on, but for now I'll stick to my hardly won 300 candies. XD

Tei [Treats OFF] (#34278) I'm kinda glad to hear you say that - I'll admit, I kinda had fun lurking on the thread and seeing you guys get soooooo close to the solution a few times, only for a more complicated, incorrect theory to lead you away from it again 8D

Like Kaiyo, I'm very proud that you guys eventually were able to figure it out, and it made me kinda happy to see you all so engaged in what started as "this little idea" I had a few weeks back ^.^

(A "little idea" that Yasu then ran with and added some elements of his own to, to the point that I had to figure out the exact solution myself as well - I doubt he'll admit it, but I suspect him of having fun with it >.> )

The idea of writing it on paper is fine and all but again, for people who work 40+ hours a week and can only knock on doors briefly during a very short break at work and who don't have access to a computer it's very hard to keep track of numbers. I'm still for the idea of a karma counter. Hell if ppl wanted to disable it to keep it more a challenge why not allow that?

So, it's harder for users with high IDs to switch their karma back, since I assume they get fewer knocks than low IDs, so they can't treat as many?

I'm a high number and I get a pretty decent amount of knocks - since I only need to treat 21 times to ensure good karma, that usually only takes ~15 minutes at most, which I spend adventuring for BP!

Having Treat/ToT/Candy/etc in your name probably helps, since I tend to knock on doors like that first and then work on the other users after. But the people at the top probably get more knocks too, honestly. :P

Well...that explains why after she would show up I would keep getting all the characters that would steal my candy >:'c
