New Knowledge Base Article and Small Updates

Site Update

For a while now it's been said that crystal checking designs seems extremely complicated, and that while the old article was jam packed full of information... it was also a little daunting to read. I've had a lot of positive feedback about a guide I made on tumblr what seems an age ago, so I have updated it a little to fix my mistakes and have posted it to the knowledge base with hopes that the step-by-step guide will help even more people!

Along with it, you will see there have been some pretty major updates to modifiers - including some that have been asked for - to help simplify them for every day use.

I apologise that the transparency calculations section has not been completed yet,
but that part it turns out is trickier to explain and understand, and I want to make sure that it's crystal clear before unleashing it on you guys =)

There is also a slightly terrifying Humanoid rule article under way. I apologise in advance for any nightmares I cause (the mods still haven't forgiven me),
but I'm hoping to engage a real artist to do some better examples soon!

Hopefully all of this will help, and if there's still things that need some better explanation please let me know down below so I can see what I can do about clearing it up for you.

Then I have another question.

Boobs are in the "isolation" list. Clothes are in the "isolation" list.

I am guessing you don't want bare-boobed pets coming out, considering the boobed example has a "bra" on. :D How would this work?

Sunny (#41814) - It's funny, I've been thinking about that a lot XD It never made sense to me they're on the same list either, which is why the article is still a work in progress =) It will probably be breasted pets with minor clothing for modesty (like a bra, bikini, sash etc).

I do enjoy spotting paradoxes. :D :D :D :D

Sunny (#41814) - It's good to have people see them, it's why I'm more than happy to have people going "Ah, wait now..!" XD Thankfully all of this is really just about making things clearer - other than modifiers nothing has really changed at all, so if people continue as they always have they're going to be fine ^^

Eve - sent you a PM with examples. :D

Excellent to know, Eve.

I'm content at the moment for now. But I'm sure I can spot more paradoxes later on somewhere... such as the fact that the 'Pedia thinks my custom lunaris is actually an Irish Ryba (already sent in a request to get that fixed and corrected)... GOOD thing I went on an organizing spree in my lair last week!!!! Cos it turned out I didn't have an Irish Ryba at all (a kind friend of mine gave me one of his spares). Phew.

Eveglori (#2775) - Could we perhaps just have a "humanoid torso" modifier that includes clothes, boobs, and abs as things that can exist with each other, just not with other exclusive factors?

Having boobs and abs as mutually exclusive from each other sort of bothers me both for logical reasons (not allowing both to exist makes it seem like keeping 'masculine' and 'feminine' torso types separate; there are numerous reasons people might want both and it wouldn't really make it feel any "more humanoid"; abs including pectoral muscles are allowed, so why not abs with boobs?) and for pettier reasons (... *I* have a character with both I want to make as a pet xD).

And then there's the clothes-over-boobs thing, of course.

Also! Is there a strong defining factor on what constitutes "human-like arms"? Legs I understand-- long, plantigrade, etc. But without human hands, is there any particular visual difference between the arms of a human and the arms of, say, a Roku or Nexus or other bipedal pet?

Both for that reason and that (as great as the Gael is) human legs don't seem too likely to occur on their own, is there any chance that-- like the proposal of "torso edits" being okay with each other but not other things-- it could be altered to human-hands-with-or-without-arms as one set of exclusive things, and human-legs-and/or-feet as another?

(Incidentally, if "humanoid torso" became a sort of super-edit including one or more of several possible smaller edits, would "being a taur" count as a torso edit if a pet didn't have clothes, boobs, and/or abs on that torso, or is that its own thing? Would it be situational, where most taurs would count but things without real humanoid structure to the upper half (like Cention) wouldn't? I mean, personally I'd hope it'd only count with the specific factors involved, but it would definitely be something to clarify either way.)

wingsofsilver (#39207) - There are some better images being made this moment to make the humanoid rule article much clearer, so hopefully that will fix some clarity issues my quickly drawn images have caused.

Humanoid arms tend to have a lot more definition than pets such as the Roku - so you have a clear shoulder, sculpted upper arm, elbow, forearm and wrist. They're usually posed in ways that you wouldn't see with animals, so while the Roku arms are quite naturally posed for an animal rearing on it's hind legs, if it's arms were up in the air like it's doing the YMCA it wouldn't be.

Your idea of grouping edits... I completely understand your stance that it does seem to isolate them into a very binary gender form, but there is the danger that allowing too many of these together will bring us back to the issues we were originally having with humanoid and anthro designs. I will definitely think on it and see if there's a way to incorporate some of these together in a way that allows for more options, but so that it also doesn't raise potential issues.
