New Knowledge Base Article and Small Updates

Site Update

For a while now it's been said that crystal checking designs seems extremely complicated, and that while the old article was jam packed full of information... it was also a little daunting to read. I've had a lot of positive feedback about a guide I made on tumblr what seems an age ago, so I have updated it a little to fix my mistakes and have posted it to the knowledge base with hopes that the step-by-step guide will help even more people!

Along with it, you will see there have been some pretty major updates to modifiers - including some that have been asked for - to help simplify them for every day use.

I apologise that the transparency calculations section has not been completed yet,
but that part it turns out is trickier to explain and understand, and I want to make sure that it's crystal clear before unleashing it on you guys =)

There is also a slightly terrifying Humanoid rule article under way. I apologise in advance for any nightmares I cause (the mods still haven't forgiven me),
but I'm hoping to engage a real artist to do some better examples soon!

Hopefully all of this will help, and if there's still things that need some better explanation please let me know down below so I can see what I can do about clearing it up for you.

So basically the calculation has been simplified a bit and the original lines only portion no longer counts?

Taena (#66637) Eveglori (#2775) The ACPT does not do the new equation as described in the updated tutorial, but it does get the exact same pixel count as photoshop (it's displayed below the image). It's literally just a count of how many pixels are not entirely transparent. If there's a need I could make a program that just spits out the number of non-transparent pixels for an image no problem. It's kinda strange that GIMP would get different results, but I'm guessing it might be using an approximate for the pixels instead of a direct count.

LOVE the Ear Lepu - made me giggle like crazy. But yea, I'm not nuts over having very humanoid features on my own pets. Clothes, hair, I LOVE. Piercings, I love. It's when there's faces that look like hooooooooomans... shiver.

Tyger (#54028) - Hmm, that is a very good question, and I will admit that I had not considered that sort of style when I changed the modifier rule. I would say that it would fall under gaining edit percentage, which could add up very quickly depending on the pet you're doing (fully surrounding glows, for example, can really rack up the percentage even at a low opacity). Could you send me some examples so we can figure this out together? I'd love to be able to allow some more leniency with these things, and I work much better with visual examples =)

Rocket Grunt Hamner (#13) - In short, yes. It doesn't change too much (as before, if you keep the melo ear's lines, you know that the area inside it is not going to count towards edits), and it makes it a little easier again for people. GIMP is such a weird one *chuckles* We tested it with identical PSDs and would get results that varied from 1% to 6% different, despite no changes being made to it from one program to another. I did have it explained that the issues that some people found with the java program rests in not resetting it correctly between customs, so as long as people are doing the overlay image accurately it should still be good for those without a Photoshop option =)

Sunny (#41814) - I love that lepu gets so much love XD!

Eveglori (#2775), mostly clarification because I think i remember seeing this when the humanoid rules were stated the last time, it's still a case of you can't have Hair and a dress on a pet together right? I'm pretty sure that was stated prior(it's why I have a suune that only has a dress but no hair because pretty sure that was stated by the time I had her made) but wanted to just double check.

if you wanna use any of my boob pets as examples, I'd be happy to offer ;) I've got a nice few edits, plus an arm gael!

Spirit_of_Auron (#33592) - I believe that was the case, yes. However I'm lifting that so that as long you only have one of the "in isolation" edits, you can have elements from the "allowed completely" list. It is somewhat probationary - as all changes must be to see how things change and fluctuate - but hopefully shouldn't cause too many issues =)

Eveglori (#2775) and Spirit_of_Auron (#33592)

I'd love a clarification on this as well.

I have several pets that have clothing items, lots of hair. Kinda my favorite kind of combos. :D

Eveglori (#2775) Thank you :) I'll still crystal check any pet i do make if I ever get another pet with edits like that but thank you again for the clarification :)

Eveglori (#2775)

So you're saying that having hair and a shirt is acceptable together?

Spirit_of_Auron (#33592) - My pleasure, and I'll look forward to seeing your pets come through queue ^^

Sunny (#41814) - Indeed I am saying that would be fine, as long as the shirt is the only thing from the "In Isolation" list =)
