New Knowledge Base Article and Small Updates

Site Update

For a while now it's been said that crystal checking designs seems extremely complicated, and that while the old article was jam packed full of information... it was also a little daunting to read. I've had a lot of positive feedback about a guide I made on tumblr what seems an age ago, so I have updated it a little to fix my mistakes and have posted it to the knowledge base with hopes that the step-by-step guide will help even more people!

Along with it, you will see there have been some pretty major updates to modifiers - including some that have been asked for - to help simplify them for every day use.

I apologise that the transparency calculations section has not been completed yet,
but that part it turns out is trickier to explain and understand, and I want to make sure that it's crystal clear before unleashing it on you guys =)

There is also a slightly terrifying Humanoid rule article under way. I apologise in advance for any nightmares I cause (the mods still haven't forgiven me),
but I'm hoping to engage a real artist to do some better examples soon!

Hopefully all of this will help, and if there's still things that need some better explanation please let me know down below so I can see what I can do about clearing it up for you.

Engine (#8701) - That would be so fantastic, thank you ;; I think as fun as mine are, it might be best to get a real artist on the job *laughs* Give me a nudge via PM whenever you like, and we'll sort it out there ^^

Taena (#66637) - I've been looking for people with alternative programs that have histograms to try out, so if you know of any programs (especially free ones) that might fit the bill I'd love to talk to people that use them to see if we can figure out how accurate it is ^^ That said, we are getting a wriggle on with undoing the Crystal Check backlog, so I'm hoping that will be back as an official option once again for people who can't or don't want to do it themselves =)

Lol! Boobs were never banned, but I'm very glad that someone is happy XDD

AremRae (#3998) - Lol! We can always mix and match to get all the examples done, and having someone else doing it for me will mean I won't have to try and draw hands again XD

Ohhh nice. Eveglori (#2775) I had your tumblr post bookmarked for just this purpose. It is so nice to have a regular page to go to, all organized and sexy like. THANK YOU SO MUCH for everything. And the modifier changes all make me happy. And the sphinx rules incoming are going to make me happy. :D Just so pleased.

It would be awesome to have an article like this on mini pets. There was a confusion when commissioning someone to do a minor edit that included a Daruma, so it would be epic if things like that could be cleared up as well. - Valice

Smooth Jazz Lover (#19565) - It's a bit of a mish-mash of reasons. Originally it wasn't allowed at all, customs were meant to be animal and creature based only, but over time sphinx type customs with the human head/face were being accepted and it came under debate about whether it should be allowed. Users at the time expressed an extreme discomfort in the idea of users "owning" humanoid creatures, and these rules were created to limit how far any one pet could push that communally felt boundary. It's why if you dig around (even in my own lair, I will confess) you can still find some extreme examples of humanoid features from when there was a... well, a week long free-for-all before they were restricted.

Valice & Fenris (#20488) - That's a really good idea, and I'm glad you brought it up. Minipets are definitely a confusing subject and could use some serious clarification for everyone =) I'll definitely get to work on a KB article that addresses them and when mini isn't so mini any more.

Hey, with the lineart redraws no longer incurring edit percentage modifiers - does this only refer to almost-exactly-the-same, or would I be able to do some calligraphy-like line redraws? I mean, I love that kind of thing, so I'd like to know where the boundaries are. I'm guessing it'd incur *some* percentage, but from what I understand it used to be auto-silver? So I'm hoping it's now a bit more achievable.
