Regarding Deleting Threads

Site Update

Staff have recently been inundated with requests for thread deletions, most often when an account is being sold/moved into. This is creating an unsustainable workload that is impacting other areas of the site.

Due to this we are now formally restricting thread removals to one year old or less from the time of the last post. For example, from today, threads last posted in before July 14th 2014 will no longer be removed from accounts.

Users posting in threads they want deleted to bring them within the time limit will receive a formal warning against their account.

Users should be able to delete their own threads. A lot easier.

How about a mass delete available through an item or something... since it would delete ALL the posts on the account it wouldn't be used often - and I know that in mysql it would be a one line command to remove all the posts... it could either be automated (best) through the item or a mod could do it if they were given database access (or just a button somewhere).
Psuedocode:
empty column 'posts' where column 'user' is oldUser

Probably wouldn't be much harder to have all the old posts swapped to the new account either if you wanted to add an item to do that instead...
Since I don't know mysql commands off the top of my head here is an example in javascript:

if (postIsBy userA){
postIsBy = userB
}

I really don't understand this post at all. I feel like this news post is trying to say two different things that contradicts itself :

None of the threads are actually deleted (it's mentioned somewhere in the comments).
I think they just move them to a forum group regular users won't see.

My two cents: Moderators don't *have* to be paid. Not in USD or GP. I've never seen mods be paid before. Flight Rising doesn't pay their mods. And the site that i was on previously didn't pay their mods. So I think if there were to be mods who'd just move threads and that is it (or risk punishment), then they could probably be volunteers. I mean. Not everyone is thinking this is such a necessity. I get both sides really. Clutter sucks and can even be stressful to some but if it takes up to much (paid) time to move threads I see it not be worth it. Probably. I'm not exactly sure what goes on behind the scenes with mods. But in any case, if people truly want to have threads moved then at least a couple people *should* volunteer. If no one does, it probably isn't important enough. If people say they don't have enough time to commit. Then how can they criticize the site for not have enough "time" (or resources) to commit to this service that only started because of a mod generous with their time. While I don't understand how never deleting anything doesn't bog down a site, your policy has solid reasoning behind so I don't think it is unreasonable to not allow users to delete their own stuff either. Though yeah, like someone said people could just modify their posts to delete stuff. Not being able to modify your post would be terrible though. That is going to a too extreme level.But yeah, I don't see any harm in having volunteer mods moving threads as free service in every aspect. May not be a popular opinion for someone to go unpaid. But c'mon, it is just moving threads and it is just an internet forums. I find the thought of paying someone (even in "funny money" aka GP or even BP) *just* to move threads to be a little ridiculous. Like I said, many sites have 0 paid mods. People gave Flight Rising as an example of where deleting threads is ok and probably Flight Rising is the worst example of place that needs moderating like hell but is only volunteers and considering the vastness of their forums and how fast it moves I'm not sure there could ever be enough mods lol. If people truly want it, they will come. If not, the option to moving threads was given its chance but no one stepped up so "oh well"?? On a side not, as a volunteer mod, maybe it could be that you don't have to commit an obscene or even just a good amount time to this. Just enough to be considered for such a responsibility. And with volunteers only it doesn't have to be limited to just one or two. I probably repeated myself a lot, lol, but I kept feeling like I was wording stuff weird but yet was too lazy to fix it xD;

This seems silly to me...I have never personally requested any such thing but I would think that it would be easy to find a couple of mods who would be willing to take this on.

Seems a tad silly, but I understand its a lot of work. If there's ever decided there's a need for volunteers, this would be something id love to help with. Repetitive tasks are my love XD <3
