SpaceShipRat (#47778) it's not just a "young people" thing... I think that's part of the problem is that people see alternate life styles, genders, or sexual preferences and they think it's something new or that it's influenced by tv and stuff. No. These have been around for thousands of years and we are just able to get more exposure and respect (or lack there of) because the internet makes information about every thing more wildly available to the public.

Phantom Butterfly (#14055) wow.... that comment is kind of offensive. I mean there are as many sexual preferences as there are different things that people like. Just barbecue you don't personally may not care about it does not mean that you have to act disrespectful towards Aywas trying to help make every one feel included and welcome.

Taena (#66637) I think what SpaceShipRat (#47778) might have been trying to say (please correct me if I'm wrong!), is that people often figure out what is right for them or what their sexual preference is called when they're in their teens (cuz of puberty and stuff). Not that I have any personal experience with it - I'm just boring old heterosexual x3 But yeah, that's when most of (all? I didn't exactly ask them x3) my gay friends figured out they were homosexual.

Personally, I do sometimes feel like "oh wow, there's so many of them!", but not in a bad way. If anything, it only makes sense for so many different preferences to exist, and I'd like to learn more about them. But it would've been nice if items like these came with a bit of basic info, because not everyone will make the effort to look it up themselves.

Marjo (#5741) not really. Especially with technology and information sharing a lot of people who have never felt they "fit" in have been able to figure out things about themselves later on in life... some times it's because they were brought up in strict, religious homes, some times it's just because they never knew there was another way of looking at things than what was the general "social norm". You see a lot of people in their later 30's and 40's making life changes and coming out that they identify with different sexual preferences... there are even some people in their 70's and 80's who have come out as something other than they have been portrayed as their whole life, because it was not acceptable for them to be anything other than what they were told to be as a child. Now things are more accepted in general and people are able to find out information and understand things that up until now were just ignored or held back.

To all those people who complain that there are "too many" words now for different identities, having a word that is specific to your situation/feelings is so powerful. It's a language to talk about your experience with other people, an easy way to connect with people who might feel as you do, and it gives you something to refer to yourself that isn't hurtful (I'm not weird, I'm ______). It's a small thing that can be so important for people struggle with self-acceptance.

I think what a few people mean when they say the young people is, yes I do see a lot of under 25 year olds trying to figure out their sexuality and using the terms and such. It doesn't necessarily mean you're ignorant or anything when you say that, its kinda like just a statement? I'm 18 and still havent quite figured everything out.

#66637 #5741 yes exactly, I said "young people" because it's the most vulnerable stage, it's where it gets as far as suicide risk, and mentioning this stuff helps people understand what's going on with THEMESELVES.

Of course there is also the other side of the coin, making people comfortable with OTHERS' sexuality and quirks, so they don't react with fear and mistrust to things they don't know.

It isn't a fetish, it's just a split off of Ace with a little more specific information to it. Ace isn't a fetish, this isn't a fetish it's just a form of Ace. It's just a way to sum up with a term how we feel in certain situations and the like. Ace is a very broad term, and it's nice to have smaller groups in the Ace community that can help define your feelings a bit more.

I'm a little sad seeing the comment "oh god not another one". I know it can be frustrating to see a lot of different terms if you're used to only having a few, but the more terms that come out the easier time people have understanding themselves. Using a "label" for something can help you find others that feel the same, it can also show other people exploring themselves that there are others out there like them. It's hurtful to see a comment like that, especially if the reader identifies with the term you're commenting on.

This is not a fetish, and like Arem said, it's a little upsetting and hurtful seeing someone just go "oh god not another one."

On a lighter note, I was sad not to see this one with the regular deck, but now I can pick it p for myself. Many thanks for adding it.
