Yoo hoo! *waves hanky* It's me again with another special delivery!

Did you know that today is Book Lover's Day? No? Well, neither did I until Shaylmesse (#13314) brought it to my attention-- and I'm blushing to have to admit my ignorance, because there are few greater pleasures than curling up with a good book! If you're like me and would just love to have your own little personal library, why don't you try Shaylmesse's gift on for size?

The Book Lover's Background is available in the Advent Calendar for the duration of today and tomorrow, up until August 10th, 11:59pm.

Ooh, but wait! There's more!

Tell me your favourite book (and why!) in the comments and you could be in with a chance of winning this set of custom crystals! I'm in need of some good new holiday reads and I'm sure I can't be the only one. :3 Chime in by August 10th, 11:59pm to ensure your spot in the draw (one entry per account, please).

Ooh, but wait! There's even more!!!

Do you remember I mentioned earlier in the week that I was having a tidy of my inbox? The invitation (and encouragement!) to nudge your outstanding Artist Pay is still open, but today I am asking you to bump up PMs pertaining to Lunarii switches. That means if you picked up the wrong Lunaris for the month and you're still waiting on me to swap 'em around for you, point yourself to my inbox sharpish!

Phew! Okay! That's everything - probably! Who knows! Yay! Exclamation marks!

Thank you for the background, Shaylmesse!

Just smell those new pages!

It's hard to choose just one, but my brain stopped on one book almost immediately. I very highly recommend the book "The Last Days" by Scott Westerfield. It's the sequel to "Peeps" but I love this sequel more. You get to know the new main characters like they're real people in your own life. "The Last Days" has a very, very bizarre but real twist to it. Days after reading it for the first time I feared the monsters I read about in it would slink up from the earth's core and swallow me whole. xD Silly, but true. That's probably why I love it so much (how real-but-totally-not-real it is). And the best part? It shows you how music can save the world in a... Strange way? I can't say more about that, or it would ruin the story. Reading this book again after a couple of years, I've come to realize how connected to human evolution it is-and I tell you after learning about evolution last year in school.. I may be a bit obsessed with how humans change to survive in more than one kind of way in this book. It's hard to explain. I also seem to like the characters a little less than I used to, but I actually think that makes the story better. I like to think that no one is perfect, and the best characters have the most flaws. The characters in this story are important, but the story itself is even more important, I think. But while this is one of the best books I have ever read, I think it's a good idea to read "Peeps" first. Peeps is where the story truly starts, and in "The Last Days," where this story ends. . . Sort of. :,}

I have a lot of different fun reads but one of my older favorites is "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. It's an intriguing murder mystery.

Picking a favorite... Geez. I like waaay too many books for that. My all time favorite is Lord of the Rings, which I'm sure most everyone has read at this point, what with the movies, so I'll suggest another amazing high-ish fantasy series.
The Firekeeper series by Jane Lindskold is a really good one. Its a little long, but well worth the read. I picked it up on a whim in high school, and couldn't put it down until I read the last book. The main character is a fascinating example of a human straddling the line between animal and human, what with literally being raised by wolves. She's been a real inspiration to draw from when writing characters of similar background.
It has a multi-leveled plot, one that's contained within each novel, and then one spanning several novels, and even the whole series, which is a delight to untangle while reading!

My favorite book is Game of Thrones. Its one of the few books that can make me cry, scream, rant, and cheer at the same time. The switching of characters over the course of the story, might be hard to get into, but well worth it for the storyline. I love characters, hate characters, and then some of those hated ones I come to love just as much. The Game of Thrones is just an amazing story with adventure, war, betrayal, and a whole lot more. I can't wait for the next book of the Song of Fire and Ice books to come out! -Michi

Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer. It's honestly just an exhilarating tale about a mix-up of fantasy and action with no love and romance getting in the way. From dragons to giants, from berserkers to just normal people, this book is chock full of all of that and more. It brims with excitement and even though I've read it a million times, I'm still on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page.

After reading that I realised that I should have thrown in a few more books, because I missed my fifth favorite, which also struck a deep chord with me. I guess you can't do everything perfectly. :D

Anne McCaffrey's 'The Dragonriders of Pern' series is always a good classic. My favorite of the lot is "Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern". I mean, what's there not to love about dragons in outer space? About futuristic settlers from a space-faring age on Earth going to another planet, but losing contact with Earth, and over the next 2000 odd years, developing their own culture? Brilliant.

I don't know if I really have a favorite book, but one of my favorites I read this year is Holiday of the Dead. It's an anthology with short stories by different authors. One would have to like to read about zombies since that's what the stories are about. It's good to read on holidays since each story also has to do with one. There are stories about both vacations and seasonal celebrations. Usually when I read a book with short stories there are at least a couple I don't like. While I liked some more than others there weren't any I didn't enjoy.

I'd reccomend 'The Demon King' from the Seven Realms Series, written by Cinda Williams Chima, I just LOVE the built-up suspense, the mystery, the characters and their relationships, and above all I LOVE the lead character. Then again, I have a thing for hot fantasy bad boys XD

The Redemption of Althalus by David and Leigh Eddings. The reason I highly enjoyed and recommend this book to anyone who asks for a good read for any time of year is because of the sheer amount of fantasy, relatable characters, and overall humor within the confines of the covers. It's a standalone book, which means it has no prequel and no sequel. It is rather unfortunate, because a sequel would be absolutely phenomenal for this book, but an ending that leaves you the ability to make up your own take on what happens after the book is closed is always good as well. Nothing like a book that activates your imagination throughout the story, gives you a little to go on in the end and challenges your imagination to figure out what the author will never tell. ~Cheshy
