T4T: Something Inflammatory

Items

"May 19th is World IBD Day. IBD stands for inflammatory bowel disease, and is about as fun as it sounds. Specifically, it includes the Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Two permanent conditions for which there is no known medical cure that works for certain, no proper known cause, and very little support for the people suffering from it.

It's hard to get funding for research when people don't want to even mention the disease, and it's often considered "rude" or even "taboo" to suffer from something, that means you might have to spend a lot of time on (or near) a toilet. Imagine having to explain to your class mates or co-workers that you have no energy, because you're loosing both blood and pretty much everything you eat every day, with no time to really get that energy back. Oh, and you need to stay within one minutes walk of an unoccupied toilet to feel comfortable. That's what it's like to have an IBD when the disease is bad. And for those that are really unlucky, this is every day, every week and every month of the year.

IBD usually hits young people between age 15 and 35, but can also hit children or older people. 1 in 200 people in the US are estimated to suffer from it, meaning you statistically know at least one person that's affected. Last year, it became apparent that a lot of Aywas users suffers from either IBD, IBS, celiac disease or something similar. Please feel more than welcome to share your stories with other users in the comment here, and know that you are not alone."

Also, IBD/S can come with constipation so image having to tell people you aren't hungry and feel like crap because, well, you're full of bricks and nothing ever helps.

Hi all. I made this item because I suffered from ulcerative colitis for two years. It got so bad, i ended up having my colon removed about a decade ago, and now has an ostomy as a result. On the plus side I can live a pretty normal life now. :)
There's no "one right solution fits all" in this situation, but I know I never want to run for a toilet again, and is happy with my choice. Luckily I also got the support of my friends, family and partner. Who stuck with my through all of this, and still is at my side more than a decade later. ;)

Anyway, know you're not alone. And that there's others on site that actually have a pretty real idea of what you're going through.
I hope everyone affected will find solutions to live a happy life.

I suffer from ulcerative colitis too, 5 years diagnosed now. It is no pic nic. Although my case it's not the worse, it has changed my life completely. Got distance from everyone since I get tired of explaining why I can't do this or that like before.

IBS IS AWFUL; I wish it would go away.

I have IBS. I had to quit my job a few years ago because I also have anxiety and with work, one just fed off the other. I'd be anxious my IBS would flare up on a work day, if it flared up and I wasn't anxious before that, I certainly was after. It was terrible. I've never found anything to take for it but now that I'm medicated for my anxiety, it seems my IBS is more manageable.

I've had IBS literally my whole life. Mom says I used to claw at my belly as a baby and cry because it hurt and I couldn't do anything about it.

I'm so happy to see this. (Ruck speaking) I have had Crohn's since I was 17. It is painful, and sometimes embarrassing. I get annoyed when people tell me they "know how I feel" because they had diarrhea one time, or food poisoning one day.

No, you do not. Crohn's is not something to take lightly. I have days where I feel ok, and other days I just don't want to get out of bed, can't eat, etc.
