Lol, I'm the only no so far.

Sorry, pressed enter. I voted yes, for the main reason that it's their thread. If they want it closed, it should be closed, but only if they ask for it to be.

I voted no. This is not to say Moderators should /not/ close the threads, this is to say that once a request for a shut down has been given, it is up to the moderators to decide.

I voted yes. If someone wants their thread closed, it is their every right to have it be so, in my opinion.

I voted no. I think it takes away personal responsibility, as you wouldn't have to account for your statements or behavior if things got ugly; you'd just close the thread and be done with it. Not the way to go, in my opinion.

yes XD, There are those situations where replies are dated and thus locking can actually make the boards look cleaner by letting old answered questions and such not be revived unnecessarily.

I think it should be the same policy as the rest of the thread policy rules: their thread, their rules. If they want it closed, it should be closed. Yes vote from me!

I say yes. Why not? The thread starter is like the "leader" of the thread. If they wish for the discussion or thread to end, then a moderator should have the power to oblige.

I voted no. My reasoning being that it is something that can end up being used in a rather petulant way. Some people will request their thread to be locked not because of flaming or other rule breaking, but because they don't like the responses they're getting, or the discussion isn't going their way. They can request it to be closed all they want, but mods should only have to lock a thread because of rule breaking, not because the OP doesn't want to deal with it anymore.
