This is especially pertinent to Debates and Discussions threads, so consider it in that context. Feel free to voice your opinion or elaborate in the news comments.

I am fine in having threads suggested to be locked if a debate forum/rant is getting out of hand. But if we're talking silly stuff like 'lock my art thread please, I'm done selling things!' I don't mind. I really feel the need to firmly step in if there is a breach of site rules in a heated thread, yes, but agree that if the OP is simply hurt about not having gotten support, or just simply because they disagree over something, then that's a bit less so. Regardless, I voted 'yes', because it's hard to really choose. It's situational for me.

I voted no, for a reason that has been pointed out.
"because they don't like the responses they're getting, or the discussion isn't going their way."

I vote no. If they don't want responses on their topic they shouldn't be posting it in the first place.

I voted no, as well. It's like you're starting a debate, then closing it if you don't like the opinions you're getting. What is the POINT of a debate if you just want to go there to prove your own opinion and don't like it if you don't 'win your debate'? I note that most close them if the other people seem to be making more sense. Sounds immature and like they just wanted to start it to sound right, or force people to accept their opinion as the right one. Sorry, it's just what I noted. >:

This is getting interesting. Best use for the users to lock their own thread only in Art shops, but it's their responsible to change their title to say it's closed. Most of the times, they ask the Mods to close their thread topics. I been there and done that. On all other forum sites. >_>
