Site Update
Good evening! We have some news today for the site as a whole and for the Winterheart Gala, so please make sure to read the full post!
It has been no secret that Aywas wants to do a recode - the site needs the facelift and even more so we need to fix a lot of dead end systems and refresh a lot of things on the back end. Normally when sites do this, they fully close down for a few months and then reopen. We have decided we will take a different approach - hibernation.
Over the span of the next few months, we will be making several changes to the way the site works. Not everything will happen at once, but this is our plan should the recode take longer than expected:
- No more USD contracts; breeding artists who are pre-paid can finish their currently pre-pay and then will either have to swap payment options or resign. GCC/MDT/SCC that are currently USD will be able to finish their current ticket then will be removed, and they will be contacted individually within the next few weeks. This also includes USD pay for shop submissions.
- Slashbot will continue as normal as this time.
- BP/GP shop pets will now be swapped to being every other month and will not be available for direct sale. They will only be available through the monthly potion, which will be available in both the GP & BP shops.
- Jeweleds & RCC will be swapped to every other month for the time being. So the current Jeweleds and Current RCC will be for February and for March!
- Custom makers will be removed from GP/BP/PP shops and manually restocked depending on the current need based on what is in user inventories/for sale. (This one can be confusing - they are not being permanently removed, they are just going to rotate in and out of the shop as needed to try to spark trade. At the time of the last search, staff found many available for less than shop price and we want to encourage everyone to buy those. This will begin next weekend.
- Breeding coins will remain limited stock as the queues allow.
- Mayday: Artists who choose USD as their primary payment for a set must also choose a secondary option; if they sell 1 design from their set on day 1 or 2, they will receive their primary USD payment. If not, they get their secondary option.
- Suggestions forum will be locked until we are done with the revamp as all suggestions are for the current site and the way this site is built. Once the site is recoded, we will reopen them and look forward to new ideas and feedback, but in the meantime we would like to focus on the recode as the start to a new future for Aywas.
- All pre-planned events will continue as normal, as will our traditional holiday events.
The reason for this is so that we can reallocate all of our resources to focus entirely on the recode. We will be doing a lot of back end work, so there isn't going to be a lot of front end updates. We will attempt to keep everyone posted on how it is going, but we are not going to give an exact time frame - especially with the way the world is lately. We know that this is a lot to take in and may result in some significant changes, but we want to keep the site running while we work on the back end instead of going down fully for an extended amount of time. The Seasonal Shop for the Winterheart Gala is now open!
There are a variety of pets to choose from, as well as items, clothing, and some lovely custom makers! The Tokens of Affection can be used to make a Haatochu, for anyone who may be new to these little trinkets.
We will also have three new lines coming to the Love Potion #9. There will be a news post once they are ready for release, but if you like the Soluss, Crystelid, or Paleo, it may be worth it to nab one, two, or three! If you'd like to see the other lines that you can create with this item, you can check out the Knowledge Base article!
If you don't have enough points to purchase everything that you would like, don't fret! The Seasonal Shop will be open until 11:59 PM AST on March 1st. This will give you one extra day after the Love Letters will stop dropping so that you can use any last minute points you may receive.
Have fun continuing to spread the love, and try not to receive any paper cuts by flinging letters around!

The admins are hoping to spark trade amongst users, but also add a sense of rarity to some pets again! With Glittering Rocks (and the slab, etc) it's super easy to get basically any pet, and for a pet collection site, that's both good and bad XD

Not sure I like this tbh. I don't see how it helps with resources and seems too loot-box like. If I buy GP I want to get the pet I want :/ Plus, not very fair for the ppl that have low funds in the site currency.
Now, if the monthly potions were reasonable (ie: 1-2 GP) then MAYBE it'd be ok.
Other than that, good to know that the site is getting a recode, hopefully the layout only gets better and not worse.

I'm not the most savvy Aywas player despite my years existing on the site, so I have no proper commentary to give to this discussion, but one thing I can say-- please try to make breeding coins more accessible for the 'non-financially-privileged' users..! 😠Creating designs using custom and/or in-game asset designs is one of the coolest things about Aywas, but it's 4x more expensive to do than just submitting an entirely separate custom.

I personally hate the gambling features I know they have the appeal but I often find myself disengaging from games that use it frequently. legit what is the point of them besides to sink gp/bp?
glad site is getting a recode, not super happy with more RNG seeping in.

I'm sorry but ngl the whole 'no more direct pet buying in the bp shop, only via this lootbox potion' thing is a horrible idea. The bp shop pets are one of the main reasons I even come on here daily so if I cant even directly buy the pets I want I might as well not bother lol

Super excited about the recode! I've loved Aywas, but have always felt a little out of the loop for some of the features that died or retired or whatever before I joined, which has probably only gotten worse for newer users. I love the idea of revamping/removing things that probably just bog the site down at this point.
I can't really comment on the USD announcement, as it's not an aspect of the site I really a part of.
As for the custom makers, I'm interested to see what this does to market. I've just realized that out of the vast majority of makers I've gone through, or currently own, the only shop I can ever recall actively buying makers from has been Trash for Treasure.
In regards to the shop pets, I'm excited to see that monthly potions will be available for BP, as well as GP. I'm interested in seeing what this does to the market as well, as the site pet market can be really weird. I'm not sure the reasoning, but it seems a lot of people just aren't as interested in the collecting (at least site pets) aspect of the site.
As for the monthly based, I am so excited for this. These are honestly my favorite customs to work with. I always thought it must take a lot to make so many new bases each month, that sometimes it's hard to show love for some of the amazing designs, especially in those busy months, or when real life gets in the way. I'm not sure the technicalities for it, but I'd even be happy with no new bases, rather exploring the older bases, like was available last May. I personally absolutely loved looking through the archives and going through all the old bases, plus I was eager to spend the money for the required items to create the pets I colored, as well as even getting involved in the forums to see what others were doing with it.
Anyway, I'm excited to see what's in store for the site!

I don't think having potion only pets will cause *too* much trouble - if there's a specific one I want, there may be more chance that someone is offering to trade a duplicate they got for another pet or an unused potion in forums or Trading Post, or selling the pet through the Shop Search. Depending on how much they want to interact with other users. Haru (#46917) And I think the random potion option means more potions sold for the chance of getting the pet the buyer wants (because of chances for getting one they don't want.) I mean, based on how many potions I had to buy in events to get full sets in the past, even with user trading...
