A user run event brought to you by the crew of Community Auction Day and Holiday Pet Exchange!

The Artist Festival is a way to celebrate and get involved with the artists on Aywas!
Select artists were invited to stream the creation of bases or colorations to share with the userbase.
These bases will all be available and free to use at the conclusion of the Festival, and some free colorations may be created for those attending streams!

The Artists will be streaming via the Aywas Discord!

It's honestly so much easier to connect on the discord though. Having the "chat" format is easier than pm style messages. It also gives a place for people to post all of their gorgeous stuff while its being made. A lot of the amazing stuff from the site has gone through the discord as a WIP half a dozen times, getting feedback and advice, etc. Its also a lot more lively than the forums.

Ooooh! I have joined this discord, because I do love me some artist streams, though chances of me keeping up with actual discord activity are... low. I get overwhelmed very easily. /o\

Are the streams going to be recorded? I'd love to watch every single one but uh I have to um. You know. Sleep. And stuff. So yeah.

Affiliated doesn't mean official, all discord related things are slashbot backed. Just want to emphasize that discord or the server is still unofficial because of that, the server rules aren't the same as aywas TOS, and no discord things are usable as proof on-site due to it.

No discredit to the discord server, just, I don't want users thinking affiliated means it's the same as the forums, pm's, or that site staff can enforce or resolve anything on the server based on sie rules ect.

I just joined the Discord and it is somewhat intimidating. There is so much good content to explore.

Side note, from reading the above comments, if the issue is people want the chat ability, why not make a chat box or something on the side on cite?

It's a verification issue, mixed with enforcement from what I understand
Anyone can change their discord name/handle as they want. Most chat programs are the same, and even if they aren't, we would have to implement a way to prove User A on-site is User A on the chat otherwise the user could deny it was them who broke a rule in chat and even after verifying a user if they can change the chat handle as they please it gets harder to track them then it is on site.

Also, not all staff are able to run multi-platform chats to moderate or otherwise use those chats. So it cuts the staff that can enforce or moderate those places.

There is more to it than that, but that's the very short of it.

@Kandria I never thought of those things! I didn't know people could change names so easily. Also the verifying people across two places sounds complicated.

I totally get that staff can't always, and shouldn't be required to go off-cite to be a mod. I wasn't meaning to suggest discord as the chat, but that Aywas could make a chat built into their website. Then everything stays home, and it makes jobs easier for everyone. I don't know, that's just my initial thoughts, I could be wrong.

Alacrity and Lioden had things like that at one point- whenni was on them years ago. It was fun. But kind of intimidating.
I find discord much friendlier because you get a more personal feel and you are able to share media. Meaning you can spam cat pics.

I would have to agree with Sevryn in that hosting the streams in Discord directs traffic away from forums and site interaction. It feels like long-time players often take for granted how small their community feels to them and assumes everyone who matters is already gathered in the same place. This leaves new or less outgoing users feeling disconnected even if the long-time users say they’re welcome. Private servers always have a feeling of exclusivity even if anyone can join, and many people who would otherwise enjoy an event like this will feel uncomfortable engaging. This feels more like a private showing than a community event. Twitch or Youtube (for some examples) would be much better for a first time stream because the door is already open. They would have the opportunity to reach more people and even possibly get people into this site. Discord has no way to record or archive streams either, so no one will be able to revisit this event later. Art streams could be a very popular and fun event for users, but it seems like the only benefit to running it on this platform would be to get more people to join an unofficial Discord.
