Happy New Years everyone! I know that you were waiting for the monthly but unfortunately it will be delayed :( Our Shops are having trouble and for some reason adding an item has a chance to make a totally unrelated item say it costs 0 bp/gp, however it still charges you the proper amount. This item then becomes completely uneditable, and due to the holiday we haven't had proper time to fix this.
Of course this is also effecting the HA Contest, as many may have seen the items are already created but until we get the go ahead we don't want to risk poking the shop.

I know, many of you are probably asking why don't I just swap around the release days? Well I was originally going to do that, but that would make the Jeweled Custom Makers have 1 less day for their submission and I won't do that to those trying to finish last minute submissions.

I do however have the newest Rock Custom Crystal for you!

This whale is happy to swim into the new year with you!

We also have a fun new update about the Genetics Kit and Hybrid Genetics Kit! Now when you use a Genetics Kit you may request which lines you use as long as the lines do not have a dedicated custom maker, so this includes many common alts and all old lines. However, this is up to Artist's Discretion. The artist is not required to use your request and may proceed with the normal lines if they desire.

We also would like to take this chance to remind everyone that artist breedings are not commissions! We have received an influx of very detailed prompts on breedings, with and without addons which allow prompts, that include requests such as color placements and edit uses. Artists do not have to follow these, and we encourage them to only do what they are comfortable with in these situations! So please be aware of this rule, and that artist's can ignore these if they desire and it will not be counted as a breeding mistake.

DrunkConquistador (#64472) Admittedly I skimmed your post but I believe you're basically asking why it's allowed to be optional for artists to follow lineset requests?

I imagine because, overall, it's more work for artists. Personally I'm grateful that it's optional. Templates take me hours to finish so if I were suddenly forced to shade a new one for a bunch of these I would have a really hard time, on top of the strict deadlines I already have. I just can't afford to make these babies on time if I also have to make a new template.

As it stands now, most of us are overworked and underpaid, especially with how the bump up to 30% edits per baby didn't come with a pay raise, so we're effectively doing twice as much work for the same pay. I assume they both want to be more careful about giving us even more extra work and with giving users more and more control when they already have a system in place for being really specific (predicts).

TL;DR: I as a breeding artist would have a rough time if I got a list and had to shade 3+ new templates on top of making the babies as usual, and I assume they considered that. So don't take it personally if the artist doesn't use what you request. Sometimes we just don't have the time. It certainly wouldn't be because I didn't like you, it would probably be because I wanted to get to bed on time that night instead of at 2 in the morning.

Small nudge to say that it looks like the birthday lunaris hasn't been changed out yet. Just got December's for my January birthday . . .

I don't mind the delay, but why not just use the old tried-and-true shops that have worked fine for years until you can get the new shops working? And that sure is a lot of weird stuff going on with the shops... makes me wonder if there's just one misplaced/mistyped line of code somewhere causing havok. XD

Tee Hi (#39846) JScofi (#49041) The news post said it would probably go live at Monday January 2nd at 11:59pm AST.

Oh my I'm sorry to hear folks are going bananas with breeding descriptions. I think the ones I ever did was leave a vague "here's a possible way you could combine these if you don't know what to do" thing when I did my sketch breeding back in the summer. I find it nicer to give artists room to breath, I know they're doing a million and one breedings so doing something very specific for me is just added stress. I mean with exceptions (like using the artist's palette add on) you can send in predicts so if you want something THAT specific that just make it yourself or get someone make it for you.

Kayla-La (#48591) Probably because I'm not an artist I'm having difficulty understanding your reply to Drunken. All the alt lines should already have shading and highlighting so (to my unartistic mind) I'm not understanding how it would take more work to make edits on an alt line as opposed to making edits on a common line as the edits should be new for each breeding anyways? And what do you mean by templates? to me it makes me think of mixing the colors for new colors and I'm not seeing how that would be affected by which lines its on? Not trying to agrue or say its 'not' more work for artists; just trying to understand ^_^6

Lots of breeding artists use custom shading to make their pets look nicer - a step above, and more unique than the site pets.
