That pet is part of the "Raw" genus. Which is set up to rotate and move in and out of relevance by design.
And they're not completely retired, the entire "Raw" section of the genus guide can be made with the "Antiquity" staffs. Though, those are more expensive and harder to get a hold of than the "Raw" custom makers, that only make the current one genus, which changes soon.
In short, they're pets set up specifically to keep the site fresh and interesting.
