Tequila Mockingbird (#64472) I made that entry and I just used a photoshop effect for that (I think it's called noise in English? Not sure though). No brushes or shapes or textures or anything ^^

I took a look at the black/red entry's large version, and it does very much look like the "noise" filter just like the artist says. You can do a lot of stuff creating textures such as that either with standard filters or standard Photoshop brushes and a little patience. :)

Also, some of my favourite textures actually are made by myself scanning stuff like handmade paper and the HEAT pot stand you can get from IKEA. You don't need to resort to photos to get unique cool textures in your Photoshop collection *hint hint*. ;)
Mind you, I usually never use anything but standard brushes or brushes done on my own for HA stuff. A few of the standard brushes at the bottom of Photoshop's standard palette can give you some very nice textures if used right. The texture on this jacket is made with a standard Photoshop brush.
