So wonderful! Many of my close friends, as well as myself have been pushing for this for what seems like most of our lives!

Finally, a decision on the side of love. I may not be interested in ever getting married for anything other than financial reasons, but at least we're getting somewhere. ^^

Was very happy to hear this news this morning. :) I'm a little disappointed (but not surprised) that it was such a close vote, but I'm grateful the swing vote went to equality.

Astra (#16365) Well said. Things were not always as advanced and political as they are now and over time we find the faults in the ways our countries were structured. Then we promote and celebrate the progress.
@ Random People... Please don't confuse the individual citizen with the government. Saying "America is less idiotic now" etc is very broad. I live in the USA and I never supported gay marriage inequalities and I surely didn't vote for Bush.. ;)

Yes. Good.
Now Australia will have to follow suit, it's only a matter of time.

This is outstanding news, and knowing that kids will grow up with an outlook that same sex marriage is the norm is probably the biggest victory so far. The fact that love is finally becoming something accepted rather than argued gives me hope that this is just the first step towards an actual equal and accepting world.
