Site Update

All literary folks rejoice, the Library has been opened!

The building has been in disarray for a long time, preventing players from submitting Aywas-related stories and getting them published. It was planned to be one of our main features and we're glad we finally have it functional.

How it works:

Write a story (after reading the Knowledge Base for the rules), submit your story, and if it is accepted, it will be turned into a readable item on Aywas.

Your story can be read through the Library's reading feature and players can restock your book in the Little Book Store. For every sale made, you get a royalty, ensuring you small but reoccurring funds over your time on Aywas.

Enjoy!

I love books! :D I'd like to try to submit a story, but I'm afraid my grammar, punctuation, etc. would not pass inspection. But I will certainly enjoy others stories :)

Can we write about humans that turn into an 'aywas species'? How about SCC pets? I have a story I wrote a while ago about my beloved Mr. Many-Eyes, but it only really works if he is allowed to slowly transform himself into a monster from a human. Also wondering about the sequels thing, that would work great for my stories. Can we add buildings to the aywas world for the purpose of the plot? There really should be a q and a section in the bottom of each knowledge base article for those who have questions :P

Are epic poems allowed?

Okay, so how do you format it correctly using the editor? When I try to center the title/author and justify the body text in the editor, the entire format changes to be either centered or left justified. Going into the source code to edit it just messed up my paragraph formatting. Anyone have any hints on what I'm doing wrong?

Wow, what a unique idea! I'd never heard it mentioned before but now I'm psyched for this! :D Question though, would poetry be acceptable so long as it tells a story?

I'd also like to know if chapters or "volumes" of the same story would be allowed. Like I know already there's one 2-volume book that's part of the Undead Books 4 collection; will members be able to do similar things in their submissions, and will there be a cap to the number of chapters/volumes?

Carni (#12344) - "Purple prose" is excessively descriptive, flowery, unecessarily poetic text in writing. For instance, rather than "His blue eyes looked into her brown ones", purple prose might consist of "His endlessly swirling sapphire orbs, each an ocean of infinite depth, stared deeply, longingly, into the rich, delicious chocolate pools, until their shared gaze mixed into a salty chocolate drink too bittersweet for words."

Conversely, there's also beige prose, which in this case would be "he looked at her." Beige writing is when you have the absolute minimum required to convey a thought.

As brevity is the soul of wit, yet words do stir the human heart and titilate the mind, there is a time and place for both purple and beige writing, in controlled degrees and for the right reasons, but usually something between them is most comfortable and entertaining for others to read. The knowledge base article mentions purple specifically, though, as it is a pitfall of many writers, especially younger ones, to go through a phase in which everything is overbearingly purple, especially when describing character appearances.

:P And I hope that helps!
