Free Photoshop!

Site Update

EDIT- Well, it looks like this no longer applies. :( CS2 isn't being reported as free to download anymore.

Hi artists,

For those of you who aren't aware, Adobe just released Creative Suite 2 (which includes Photoshop) for free. Go read about it here.

It's an older version of their programs, but older is better than nothing, and it's FREE!

Go forth and make beautiful art!

Ah, a misunderstanding XD, should have known Adobe to have an iron fist. I updated my OS and it uninstalled Adobe and when I called them to get a new key, they wouldn't do it. They said I would have to re-buy it. I explained that I had all the receipts and the emails from the site confirming purchase and forwarded them to support but they wouldn't do it. I installed a really old version I bought online by accident and bought a CS5 upgrade. Still really peeved about that.

Honestly, I wish I had caught it before they took the links down! :(

Thanks for the heads up :) But I got GIMP and I enjoy it instead. Seems to cause less "stress" on my little netbook laptop.

According to an Adobe staffer:

"If you're worried or have ethical concerns then don't use the CS2 software / key you downloaded. No one is going to come after you because Adobe screwed up and every tech blog mistook that for original thinking. Resharing a link to lifehacker won't hurt you either.

Do not reupload the stuff you downloaded, do not publish the keys yourself. You'll be fine."

In otherwords, if you got it already, congrats! You got a free copy. If you didn't, you can prolly get it from someone who did, but as long as you don't brag about it/reupload it they won't come after you? That's what it sounds like to me...

"You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!

What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See .

You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!"

To simplify: The Adobe staff have said if you've ALREADY DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED, it's ok, you can use it, they won't come after you~

"Still, they are no longer supported by the company and could cause problems or fail to run when installed on computers running the latest versions of OS X or Windows.Nevertheless, if you have an older computer or have virtual-machine software configured with an older operating system compatible with CS2, then you should be able to get CS2 running."

I have a legit cs2 copy on windows 7. I don't get this whole "doesn't work on newer machines" detail. At least for the only photoshop detail. It seems to me only yesterday cs2 was the latest PS.

I've got a new machine with a fresh install of Win7 and it runs PSCS2 just fine. I don't know about the others~

I think they mean they can't support it for newer operating systems, like if there is a new windows update and suddenly cs2 doesn't get along, then too bad. The older versions of windows wont have any new updates so they wont have much risk.
I have to wonder because the GUI for windows 8 is just so different, if it is still similar enough to 7 and earlier to work with such programs. I would expect to have more compatibility issues between 32bit and 64bit versions, but I think cs2 doesn't have a 64bit version but will still run on them, like most programs.

I don't have windows 8. My parents got it before it came out. Really a pain in the butt if you don't have a tablet PC.
