jubilee, custom orbs and crystals allow you to make custom pets- ones you design yourself.

No, I mean, are those items custom orbs/crystals? And do you just find them from exploring in the Holiday Lane?

Jubilee: Yes, and yes! ^^ That is what they are, and that is where you can find them. Going by previous comments, finding them is your best bet. Last year, they could also be found by opening Chests (in Holiday Lane) and buying them from Merchants (in Holiday Lane). But it seems people haven't been finding them via Chests or Merchants so far this year.

yup, updating stats: 62 keys used, nothing. IIS for merchants, nothing. saw over ravine: 10 crystal, 0 orb (failed all) random events: 3 crystal, 2 orbs. Oh, and 22 normal candy canes in that time - totally lost count on snowflakes, forgot to check starting tally.
I'm gonna take a break with my last 100 keys just in case they update it for chests.

In the past hour, I've used 30 treasure chest keys without success so I'm assuming you can only find them by randomly exploring.

I've spent a lot of BP on merchants and extra treasure chest keys and I suppose it's nice to know not to spend any more now!

ooh just got an orb, seen a total of 9 crystals to 1 orb :)
for the record, in the time it's taken me to burn through 37 keys, I've found NONE in chests -- NONE on vendors-- 7 crystals over the ravine (failed all)-- 2 crystals and 1 orb from random events. Just for fun: 11 candy canes in that time.
