September Xaoc Contest Results

Contests

I want to thank all of the entrants for creating such wonderful stories to curl up with this month; they were truly a pleasure to read! Our judges certainly had a tough decision on their hands, but the final results are in.

First Place goes to...
Winter (#5874) with her chilling, creative take on "harvest."

Here's what the judges had to say about the winning entry:
- Horrifyingly amazing is the best way to describe it.
- A true Halloween horror tale.
- The reader is left facing a dark unity of two vessels, matching the mood of the impending holiday.
- The writing was well done and the description of the Xaoc was disturbingly good.

Second Place - Vix of things (#7131)

As the runner-up, here's what gave Winter stiff competition:
- After reading all of the entries this one still stands out to me. It is a memorable story and I truly felt sorry for poor Ngyauro and it was easy to read.
- The idea that our pets actually consider us so inferior compared to themselves left me tickled. I love how Vix even brought in the idea of zapping, potioning, and the like and couldn't help but to feel bad for the little Soli.

Third Place - Aero (#1340)

And here's what the judges thought of the bronze medal finisher:
- I adored this story. It fully embraced the harvest theme with the festival (and made me want to go to one) and it was just a lot of light hearted fun.
- It was a pleasant and charming read. The encounter was frightening, just what Halloween needs.

Fourth Place - Mango (#20)

I think the word "clown" sums it up best, but:
- Another very interesting twist on this contest's theme.
- A joy to read, despite the fact that the description of the Xaoc in this one made me cringe (in a good way!). Nnn, clowns.

Fifth Place - Araxa (#1117)

Rounding out the top finishers, a last word from our judges:
- Araxa handled the harvest theme very well in her tribute to a nature spirit.
- Interesting idea. I actually didn't predict the ending to this story.

Thank you so much to everyone who entered and congratulations to the winners! Every story was a pleasure to read and they all had their merits, so I encourage you to check them out here if you haven't already! Winners, I will be contacting you shortly about your prizes.

The next Xaoc contest will be in December, so look forward to that!

The contest is linked up there at the bottom, Fluffy Horror. All of the stories are accessible through that.
