We have some exciting updates to share!
First up, the NPC's have all set up and are ready to receive trick or treaters!
Swing by the Site Characters page and trick or treat them when they are available.
This year, how it works has been adjusted from past events, and it does not work as it used to. You can now trick-or-treat almost all NPCs; the ones you can't will display as not home.
NPC's care about your Karma; if it's red, you may find they are less than friendly. As well as some NPC's will always be grumpy to be visited. Also, some are delighted to see you and will give you more than the others! Results now pop up on the right side of the browser.
Due to the overhaul, custom events (like hiding candy) have been removed for this year; it's not a bug. It just doesn't fit with the current system, and overall, this way will get you more candy (as long as you keep your karma green!).

The widget is now live! It has been moved from the trick-or-treat page to the sidebar. It comes with several features.
- You can click and drag it to another place if you prefer it in a different spot.
- Double-click it to re-nest it in the sidebar
- If you manage to drag it to a spot you can't reach, log out and back in it will reset to the sidebar.
- Visitor counter takes you right to the visitors page! Quick and easy access.

Is the visitor counter -> visitors page link intended to open in a new tab? I personally find it incredibly annoying, but may be a matter of taste.

I'll look into the logic; it should be a "chance," not every occurrence that is weighted to be more likely when you're negative. At least 3 NPCs are weighted to almost always give candy, so I'll look into that as well to make sure they behave. They also should not be taking candy for every negative encounter. It has a pool of 7 options, from just spooking you, to being spelled or other things happening, so if it's strictly taking candy, that is not working as intended for sure.
I'll take what you said into consideration while I look over the logic, but it is intended to punish negative karma, more than it has in past years, so being constantly red will make the NPC's grumpy at you. Just like a user who gets tricked all the time might be (or might retaliate with a trick back)

Are ghost poops meant to go away after you click them? I have three floating around constantly. Click on them to make them go away, they're back by the next page.

Really not a fan of how the NPCs work now
I trick because I lose money hand over fist if I treat and I don't have the time to grind for more these days. It really feels like a punishment to have every single NPC steal a good collective chunk of my candy because I'm too broke to give visitors treats. I get that punishing tricksters is likely part of the deal, but to this extent? I'd argue it's unfair
If the event has to be retooled, then how tricking or treating users works and their costs need rebalancing too, especially since trick spells no longer work with the current system
