"If you have a moment to spare, I could use your help in some very valuable marine research! We're currently studying the Scarl and to complete our research, we need more Mermaid's Purses."
It seems while everyone has been busy exploring the far corners of Ay (for snapdragons), the Museum has opened a new Marine Research department! If you have a Mermaid's Purse and help them out, you may just walk out with a whale of friend!
Welcome the Orcinus!
The Orcinus is a new Rare genus that can be obtained through the Museum Marine Research feature!
Once you visit the Marine Research page, you will find yourself on a page listing whether or not you have any Mermaid's Purse. You can turn in a Mermaid's Purse and receive 1 Research Point.
Once you have accumulated points, the Curator will offer you special items for a certain number of points.
Carved Whale Charm
This item costs only 2 Research points, but will allow you to upload a Metal Orcinus custom!
Orcarina
This item is automatically credited to you when you reach 5 Research points, and will allow you to upload an Orcinus custom with up to 50% edits!
Unlike the Mermaid's Purse, these items are not bound to account. So if you find yourself lucky (or unlucky) with finding Mermaid's Purse to turn in yourself, you can buy and sell the Orcinus custom makers. You can find the PSD by clicking on the Orcinus above or visiting the Pet Genus Guidebook page!
So if you want to pick up a new friend or two (or three, who's counting?), make your way to the Museum Marine Research department!

Elisabeth (#35631) mermaid purses are found while adventuring. They show up at the bottom of the screen under the adventure text like when your pet uses its skill like dig or fly to get an item.

Ugh. Ive been exploring for a couple years with a pet that has all the works and haven't found a single purse. I just wanna make Scarls by myself.

So I can't remember, was it 1 mermaids purse per account at a time and once you use it you can find another? If so, does this count as a use to find another? Or could you have multiple. I can't remember -hides-

You can only carry one Mermaids Purse at a time. If you use it to make a custom or trade it in for a research point, you can find and collect another. If you don't use it or trade it in, you can find another Mermaids Purse while adventuring, but you can't pick it up if you already have one in your inventory (so you'll leave it).

The Museum Marine Research page is saying I don't have a Mermaid's Purse, but I'm sure I've got one. I still never got round to using the first one I ever got, and I remember quite recently finding another in Adventure and having to leave it.

The Mermaids Purse item shows up in your inventory, so if you have one it should be showing up there. Try checking your deposit box as well, maybe you put it in there and need to take it out to your inventory?
