Memory of Light and Spring Event

Site Update

magic_memoryoflight.png

Many of you will remember that a few weeks ago we lost one of our artists, Dani. She was one of the longest standing artists on the Aywas team, and many members of the site wanted to do something in her honor. It is with that, that I bring you the new item: Memory of Light.

The Memory of Light is a unique custom maker that can be used to create any of the available PSD's with no lineart changes.

In Dani's honor, the only way to obtain this custom maker is to donate to one of the approved charities that you can find in This KB Article. You can also find the full instructions, and a full list of the available pets.

We all still miss her, and we will continue to do so, so in her honor try to be good to each other. There is already so much sadness and anger in this world, try to shine even a little bit of light wherever you go.

Wednesday the 25th, you can find a gift from Manju in the Advent Calendar.

Now onto Spring Event things! You can now find the different dyes recipes available at the Alchemy Lab. These dyes all require a few random components as well as 2-3 Snapdragons each. Now that the dyes are obtainable, the Easter Painter has also been activated! Mouse over the dyes to see how many dye is required for each recipe.

But what will you do with your leftover Snapdragons? Why, give them to Rowan of course! They are her favorite flower, so she set up a little booth where you can exchange your flowers for the invisible 'flower points'.

You then can take those Flower Points over to the Seasonal Shop where Rowan has set up a small amount of goodies and pets for you as a reward!

If you don't have enough Flower Points, don't worry, you can also find the Bottled Tulip in the Trash for Treasure! Using this potion will transform your active pet into one random pet from the Spring Seasonal Shop!

The Easter Painter, Seasonal Shop, Egg Field, and Snapdraons will remain until Sunday April 29th, 11:59pm. They may remain later than that due to human error, but don't count on it.

Edit: carrot cannons are for flower points now, painter may not actually be open. I am looking into this, if it is truly closed just know you need less than 10 of each color dye for everything.

I know I'm going to step on toes but as someone who has been through it and had family members commit suicide if your that far gone your not going to ask for help. There are SO many people that appear "fine" and "happy" everyday but they could be dealing with something and no one knows until its too late. I think the charity should have been based on something she LOVED/lived for not her freaking death....Art, maybe she was an animal lover, anything. A LOT of people refuse to get help and a lot of times they don't want it. Sometimes its an impulse thought and you don't have time to react.

Kayu 💕 Pai 🍬 (#70951) as someone who has attempted suicide multiple times in the past, that really isn't that cookie cutter. i'm sorry about what happened to you and yours. that's terrible. that said, as a survivor of suicidal planning, ideation, and a hell of a lot of strife, it's not fair to label all suicidal folk as 'not wanting to ask for help' if you're 'that far gone'. i wanted to die because i felt no one wanted to help me or that i wasn't deserving of help. i begged for help and tried to get it on many occasions. i felt lost.

i think this is a fine memorial. the people who were closest to dani felt this to be a fine memorial. it's terribly insensitive to comment on the matter this way and try to speak for all of those with suicidal tendencies, survivors or not, as well as speaking on behalf of her loved ones. as someone who has managed to survive it, even if only by a thread? please don't speak for us. this is just plain uncalled for.

@bun. 🐇 (#77607) Okay, I stand by what I said.....If you look into majority of suicides and do your research majority couldn't ask/didn't want to feel like burdening anyone with it. My uncle was saved 17 times before he finally took his life, MULTIPLE things he went through to get help. Its both personal and research that I have done so its not like i'm only going off of personal experiences. I see why people would believe why suicide awareness would be a good option but just in my opinion I think it would have been awesome to donate to a charity she loved. Death is a celebration of one's life and who they were. Like I said just my personal opinion and not meaning to upset anyone but in this world someone is bound to get upset about someone's opinion.

Kayu 💕 Pai 🍬 (#70951) honestly, opinion is one thing, but busting into a memorial for someone and making comments like these is just not a good idea. i couldn't care less about statistics and numbers when this involves emotion and experience.

also, just because the statistics show that it's the majority doesn't mean that it's everyone. "if you're that far gone, you're not going to ask for help," sounds as if you are speaking factually for every single case, speaking for those who are suicidal instead of allowing their voices to be heard. it also makes it sound like things are totally hopeless if you're 'that far gone'. in fact, regarding those statistics, i'd hardly call them very reliable. they're subject to detail that easily could have been left out when culminating results in aggregate, not to mention the voices that are already unfortunately lost and are not able to speak out.

i understand not wanting to upset anyone with an opinion, but when it comes to subject matter so serious and personal, you have to understand that feelings attached to it will make this an incredibly touchy place to debate. frankly, sometimes, it's just better not to say anything, and since you yourself said you knew you'd be stepping on toes by saying this, i truly believe you should have had the foresight to keep your opinion to yourself — or, if you had to speak up, don't speak for people who feel suicidal. let us speak instead. the entire problem is having our voices heard, not to have other people speak based only on logic and research and not on emotion.

tl;dr: i think you really ought to step back and look at this from an emotional standpoint and a more empathetic place. i normally don't ramble and stir anything on aywas, as i'm hardly the type to cause trouble, but this is extremely personal to me, and things like this further perpetuate the stigma that makes people like me NOT want to talk. make it more comfortable for people to speak. show that it's okay to. don't speak for them; give them the allowance to instead.

If you have an issue with the charities picked, you should pm a mod. Starting an argument in the comments of a post like this is so disrespectful, tasteless, and unnecessary. Let's bring the focus back to the post instead of making such rude comments, yes?

---

If I have the time I'll definitely be offering free colorations for my SCC! I'm so happy to see so many artists coming together to contribute.

I'm sad to hear about Dani. May she rest in peace. <3

However, I'm very happy to see that Aywas has a news post about this.

In 2015, I lost my sister. Aywas was my life. I spent so many hours per day here and naturally this was the community I went to to seek comfort. I found none, and was told off for even subtly mentioning the nature of how my sister left us. (To this day, I still don't know the details.) That was the end of my time at Aywas, and I left - depressed and disappointed in the site and the community. I check back once a year or so, and when I saw this news post I -had- to log in and comment.

I'm glad to see that you're finally directing some focus on the issue of depression and suicide prevention. It's so important.
