We have also opened the Holiday Lane!. Along with new pets, as mentioned we are using a new currency style that will help prevent issues with rarity that we have been facing, so as you adventure you can find piles of Pristine Icicles. These beautiful icicles will be the main currency used in the Seasonal Shop! You will also notice that you can still collect Candy Canes and Snowflakes as part of the area's items - these, along with your stockpiles, will have a purpose later in the month! The other items however are for a bit of fun - to collect or, definitely in the case of snowballs, throw at one another!

If you are curious how many Pristine Icicles you have we have opened the Seasonal Shop and put in a very expensive Apple Coconut. If you look in on the shop your wallet will tell you how many Pristine Icicles you currently have.

We are working on a sidebar tracker like we had for Halloween, however we wanted to release the adventure zone quickly so you can start gathering Icicles!

I'm mildly confused about this currency change. I understand it's due to the issue with Halloween this year, but...
The two types of currency for Halloween and Christmas events worked perfectly fine for years. The only reason there was a problem this year with Halloween was because there were too many things to buy for Melo Pumpkins and no way to trade for them, as well as candy being over-exaggerated as a currency for the event shop. I'm not sure why the entire system needs to be changed.
And DeadRed has a point as well, this practically nukes any value treasure chest keys had, as there's no point in really having them due to how currency is set to work now.
I'm not entirely against the change, just worried about the ramifications it could have on certain aspects of how events function and the economy surrounding said events. Being unable to trade currency seems like it will be a mistake, as that's something that really effected the system before. Treasure chest keys were very valuable for finding currency, and near the end of the event, you'd be able to trade/sell currency you had extra of or save it for the next year. As things are now, it looks as though we won't be able to do either of those things. You could buy items with whatever you have extra and just sell those, but that devalues the items as that is what most people would do and therefore you would have more on the market. Granted, I don't think being unable to save currency will be as bad due to the fact that you collect it in explore rather than how ToT works, but still.
As I said, not entirely against it, just concerned.

Leo (#64689) My understanding is that the concern is about the unfair advantage that an item-currency gives older players (who have had years to stockpile CandyCanes) over newer players. Admins/Mods feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

Overall, I'm super excited for the event, if it's anything like the Halloween event it's gunna be awesome!!

If that is indeed the case, that's fair. I suppose most of my concern stems from the "unable to trade" aspect rather than the "can't save it" aspect. I don't think it'd be presumptuous to say that people that don't have as much time to spend on the site would love to be able to trade for the excess currency of others.

"Ho oh ho! It's a total scam in here!"

I might have snorted at this. Thanks team <3

Hmm, that's a good point. Though I don't know how it'd be possible to have a tradable currency that would just disappear at the end of the event... Afaik, once an item is made they can't be zapped easily, can they?

Oh neat! Also I like the idea of the sidebar tracker!

That is true. I would suggest perhaps having it be an item that becomes simply collectible after the event is over, but that would require coming up with a new one every year. Perhaps making it so that you can send it directly to someone? That would at least make it able to be transferred between users, even if trading wouldn't be the easiest thing.

I don't think it's bad to have one item for every event, after all we make 25 pretty much worthless ones every December for advent.

They could even have it that people CAN save the currency, but promise that it'll be at least three years before that currency will be able to be used for that holiday. If people really want to hold on to currency for three years instead of trashing it for points, let them. no added coding needed, no headaches, everyone wins.
