Site Update
Hello dears, I'm sorry to appear out of season but I've been sent to you with an important message from the Lunaris Council, the governing body of this corner of the universe.
It's very possible you haven't heard about them since they have been mostly absent during the seven years that humans have colonised here on Ay and Ara. You see there were a few problems they've had to attend to in order to keep you all safe here, and because of that we - the Lunarii and the Shapeshifters - have mostly been absent. We've sent down contacts on a monthly basis for a long time now, and a few Shifters - like myself and Tech - have recently come to make our homes here.
What enabled us to do this was the presence of some people you have come to know well - Kaz, Shoe, Chaos and the others. They came here from their own world to look after all that lived here, and guide you beings that are so like their form in becoming settled, and in accepting people such as myself who are both humanoid and creature.
Now that the worlds are safe again, and that you have accepted us as we are, it is time for them to return home. They catch their transport home tonight at midnight to return to friends and family who miss them dearly, and the lives they have so graciously put on hold for so long to be here with you all.
We thank them for their services, their advice, and their love, and wish them well going forward.
So what does this mean for you?
Well, now that myself and those like me are once again able to be here, we're hoping to keep things running for you as you know them. There may be a few small tweaks, a little personalisation by each of us, but we will try to not rock the boat too much while you become more accustomed to us.
We're all very pleased to be here, and look forward to speaking and spending more time with you. We sincerely hope you feel the same.
As for the Lunaris Council... they are rather hands off and don't like to interfere in interplanetary affairs, but they are watching over us from the skies, keeping us safe as always.
Take care, my loves, and I will see you in February if not before.
Staff just have a few quick notes to add on to what Eryn has said.
We want to give you a list of what the games have been known as and what they are becoming as of tomorrow (June 15th), along with any extra notes we think you might want or need to know about the updated games!
- "Xero's Pet Research" will become "Dylan’s Pet Project". The game remains the same.
- "Axl's Pet Research" will become "Naoki’s Pet Research". It has been updated to show if you have the pets or not, same as the Aywapedia, and the pet name even links you to the Aywapedia so you can go in search of one to buy! Be careful though - the button to give up shows in the same place as turning in a successful trio, so watch what you're doing!
- "Scavenger Hunt" will become "Miksa’s Pet Bingo". The game is the same, but will bring back the old game mechanism where you cannot use "Search" or the Aywapedia purchase options to find a Pet ID.
- "Talk to Xero" will become "Manju’s Musings". Your old data will be transferred to the new game - but beware, the mechanic that resets your BP amount if you miss a day has been fixed! The day is counted as 00:00:01 to 23:59:59, so you can check in with them any time of the day, just so long as you don't skip it!
- Free Food will now randomise between 1 and 10 items for you, but still feeds all your pets.
- "Tam's Item Quest" will become "Pablo’s Item Quest". This too remains the same, but again has a click through to the Item Directory page for the item they want to make it easier to complete!
- "Kaz and Shoe" will now feature Rowan and Minerva! Our cutest Aywas couple will throw plant pots and blow kisses, and you might even get an item out of it!
- "Tak's CDs" will become "Tech's CDs". Once again the item name will click through to the Item Directory so you can see what they gave you!
- "Rogue's Zapping" will become "Ambriel's Alterations". Other than a new caretaker of the random result, the game will remain the same.
There's also new NPC Plushies for you to collect... Some of them come from the updated games, if you're lucky...
We will have more on those at a later date!

i like how there's pages of comments about the changes to the game, yet staff only really respond to literally anything and everything else in the news post other than the one "we're not changing the game back". bravo, you're not trying to pop your heads in the sand and hope it goes away, nope. not at all.

I did not expect to be sad about the old NPCs going. And being honestly kind of worried about Xero...

my feelings about the manju musings are exactly what SG just enumerated. It's not the BP, it's not the mechanic...it's that it's been "broken" in a way that was imperceptible, so you didn't know it unless you were here from basically the start of the site. I realize that there's nothing you can do about it at this point, but please if something like this breaks in the future, just take the feature down entirely until it can be fixed. Or if it stays broken for more than 2 years and people like it, leave it that way. The BP economy on this site is so messed up anyway, it's not going to matter.

This is the last time staff will address the "Manju's Musings" issue.
Over the last year under the new administration people have been begging us to fix glitches that have been ignored for years, to update games, to change how things work to better the site so that it has a more stable economy, enabling users to find the site enjoyable again. At every turn that we have tried to do this there are naysayers insisting that every change we make is a sign the site is dying, and we're trying to push users away - even when we do exactly as users have requested. Hopefully you can forgive us if, due to that, those words have lost their weight when we hear them.
We understand that changes can upset people, but we cannot feasibly change everything that people complain about - especially when they're one step in a grand scheme of updating and creating rewards throughout the site that in the end will benefit everyone.
Changes are going to be made to try and make Aywas more than simply grinding in Adventure, making customs, and breeding. Some people are going to hate it. Some people are going to love it. We understand we cannot and will never please everyone, and that some changes we make will be unpopular in the short term.
So please understand, we hear you. We hear everything. We take it into consideration. Some things we will change, others we will not.
This is something that will not be changing.
Xero no longer resetting when a day was skipped was a glitch. The game was only ever meant to be a light hearted attempt to see how long you can go without skipping a day, with a small amount of BP as a small incentive to try. It was never meant to be anything more. The only real prize from the game that anyone is meant to aim for is the 31 day mark - the plushies.
Another concern is that you will lose your streak if there is downtime or maintenance - this is not true, and our coder has assured us that at the very least there is a concrete record of a user's highest streak, which the data could be reverted to in the case of any problems. In the unlikelihood of lost data we would always strive to somehow reimburse users for the negative impact this has.

Man I'mma miss the old NPC's... I dunno, but maybe since I've been here so long and seeing them leave is just so sad. I mean Kaz and Shoe were definitely my favorites. Seeing them and hearing how they were... I mean their story was strong and I will never forget them. Though a new change is sometimes necessary, I still will miss them.

Aywas Official (#2) I do realize this is frustrating for staff as well. At this point I'd almost prefer things to have been completely wiped clean & given a cap (resets to 0 after 31 logins, if that's the intent) so that no one has to worry about long streaks. Though I realize I can do that myself if I choose to :D. I'd honestly forgotten there was ever a plushie reward, and now I want the new one. hm.
Additional thought - I've generally liked the updates to the site, but I have no idea where things are going, and I think that's the largest part of my confusion/upset here. was there a newspost about an overarching plan for the site? is there a plan? It would probably help calm a lot of fears if we knew what the goals were, even in nebulous terms (obviously development is a finicky process and saying 'we will have x released by y date is a bad idea). I recognize the staff are working hard to improve the site, but to me it's always been a pet collecting game. What is this more you speak of? I would love to know what's in store.

Calankh (#33835) I can't speak for staff, but I would imagine this is still going to be a pet collecting game, just maybe with some additional features. An overarching story, or a fixed Battledome perhaps, or little player houses, or more flash games, or something like that. (I'm pulling all those from what I remember of Neopets, so I'm sure they've come up with something more creative. *shrug*)
