Goodbye To Old Friends

Site Update

Hello dears, I'm sorry to appear out of season but I've been sent to you with an important message from the Lunaris Council, the governing body of this corner of the universe.

It's very possible you haven't heard about them since they have been mostly absent during the seven years that humans have colonised here on Ay and Ara. You see there were a few problems they've had to attend to in order to keep you all safe here, and because of that we - the Lunarii and the Shapeshifters - have mostly been absent. We've sent down contacts on a monthly basis for a long time now, and a few Shifters - like myself and Tech - have recently come to make our homes here.

What enabled us to do this was the presence of some people you have come to know well - Kaz, Shoe, Chaos and the others. They came here from their own world to look after all that lived here, and guide you beings that are so like their form in becoming settled, and in accepting people such as myself who are both humanoid and creature.

Now that the worlds are safe again, and that you have accepted us as we are, it is time for them to return home. They catch their transport home tonight at midnight to return to friends and family who miss them dearly, and the lives they have so graciously put on hold for so long to be here with you all.

We thank them for their services, their advice, and their love, and wish them well going forward.

So what does this mean for you?

Well, now that myself and those like me are once again able to be here, we're hoping to keep things running for you as you know them. There may be a few small tweaks, a little personalisation by each of us, but we will try to not rock the boat too much while you become more accustomed to us.

We're all very pleased to be here, and look forward to speaking and spending more time with you. We sincerely hope you feel the same.

As for the Lunaris Council... they are rather hands off and don't like to interfere in interplanetary affairs, but they are watching over us from the skies, keeping us safe as always.

Take care, my loves, and I will see you in February if not before.

Staff just have a few quick notes to add on to what Eryn has said.

We want to give you a list of what the games have been known as and what they are becoming as of tomorrow (June 15th), along with any extra notes we think you might want or need to know about the updated games!

- "Xero's Pet Research" will become "Dylan’s Pet Project". The game remains the same.

- "Axl's Pet Research" will become "Naoki’s Pet Research". It has been updated to show if you have the pets or not, same as the Aywapedia, and the pet name even links you to the Aywapedia so you can go in search of one to buy! Be careful though - the button to give up shows in the same place as turning in a successful trio, so watch what you're doing!

- "Scavenger Hunt" will become "Miksa’s Pet Bingo". The game is the same, but will bring back the old game mechanism where you cannot use "Search" or the Aywapedia purchase options to find a Pet ID.

- "Talk to Xero" will become "Manju’s Musings". Your old data will be transferred to the new game - but beware, the mechanic that resets your BP amount if you miss a day has been fixed! The day is counted as 00:00:01 to 23:59:59, so you can check in with them any time of the day, just so long as you don't skip it!

- Free Food will now randomise between 1 and 10 items for you, but still feeds all your pets.

- "Tam's Item Quest" will become "Pablo’s Item Quest". This too remains the same, but again has a click through to the Item Directory page for the item they want to make it easier to complete!

- "Kaz and Shoe" will now feature Rowan and Minerva! Our cutest Aywas couple will throw plant pots and blow kisses, and you might even get an item out of it!

- "Tak's CDs" will become "Tech's CDs". Once again the item name will click through to the Item Directory so you can see what they gave you!

- "Rogue's Zapping" will become "Ambriel's Alterations". Other than a new caretaker of the random result, the game will remain the same.

There's also new NPC Plushies for you to collect... Some of them come from the updated games, if you're lucky...

We will have more on those at a later date!

Sad to see the old characters go. As much of an annoyance he was, I'll really miss Kaz the most. But I overall like the new characters and have grown to really like Rowan :3 The Zero/Manju game is gonna be a bit of a downer, but ultimately I don't think it should matter all that much. Hopnestly, being told the site will have a solution for downtime, i'm OK with the streak resetting. Maybe because I'm old enough to remember when it happened before. Maybe because I don't really *need* the money...
I'm sure it'll reset for me eventually. The upsetting part for me would be if it happened because the site was down.

That said, those nearly 94K BP is a bit of an accomplisment. I'm curious how long I'll be able to keep adding.

Love the Graverobber reskin, though it does kinda run off the page a bit. Tetris [let's be real, it's Tetris] still shows Zave though, and Ambriel's game text is near identical to Rogue's. Hopefully those can be fixed? - Edward

Quartersety (#28932) - Ambriel's text should be updated now! We need to find the correct file to update Falling Blocks - sadly we all forgot that Zave has a quick appearance on the start screen! - but we will work on that and Graverobber after a little sleep. Some things should not be touched by weary hands!

This is literally heartbreaking. I'm gonna miss Xero so bad.

Manju's Musings I find not good. Since I may never again go on vacation. 2 years of play are then gone. I was so proud of it.

I suppose another way to put the musings issue, rather than talking about how much money we currently make, is this: My current streak is 1,506 days. Over four years.

If I lose that streak, will I miss the BP? Probably not, especially as much art as I've been doing lately.

But I will feel like I've lost something I can't get back. I'm not willing to start from scratch with the knowledge that it will take me over four years of my life to have a chance to get back to where I was, and more if I don't lose the streak for a while, with over a thousand chances to start over along the way. I would not be willing to even try playing the game again once my streak was broken knowing my kids would be getting ready for or even in middle school to have a chance of outdoing my old score.

Worse is, like I've said, I do log in every day and have gone to extreme lengths to do so some days because I didn't know login was broken, but Xero always had been as far as I'd been aware so I'm not in as strong a habit of that. I'm not worried about forgetting to log in... but I AM worried my ADHD brain will forget I didn't play that game one day and I'll have the site up in the background all day, as I usually do, working on my breeding lists or whatever, only to realize after midnight the following day that I forgot to play the game I had every opportunity to play.

I... might cry if that happens, to be honest. Not because I'd be upset about the BP at all; I have nearly 2000 GP atm. But because I take pride in the streak I've built and my biggest risk of losing it is getting distracted by a shiny thing. Getting absorbed when Pokemon US/UM drops later this year, getting really invested in an RP plot line, even getting too distracted doing Aywas art. It would feel like such a personal failure, because it's so "easy" to do, except task-oriented memory is never easy for me, which is why I'm so proud of both my streaks now. Losing it eventually is invariably gonna be pretty upsetting.

Ps: I think the conversion of "Talk to Xero" / "Manju's Musings" also not fair. 4-5 years I've collected my BP. If I forget about emergencies or the like, I will not start it a second time. It is not worth it to come online every day. It will demotivate me also when drawing, so I can settle down here and gradually and do not need to come on. A draftsman for aywas less, a customer for aywas less.
It was a reward for the long-term players, for the truly faithful user among us. Thus the moitvation decreases.

To be clear, I don't find the mechanic inherently unfair and believe it works just fine in normal situations. Had the glitch been up for months or even a year-ish, fixing it would absolutely be the best thing to do. But the glitch has been active for over half of the site's lifespan, if I'm counting right.

If people were at "risk" of losing months of build-up, okay. But years? And this isn't a small handful of the most dedicated members, but a pretty large portion of the active userbase.

I feel like a fairer mechanic would be to either:

A) Turn off reset on Manju's Musings, and introduce a second game with the same overall mechanic, and maybe a slightly higher BP output to make it more worth it to come back when reset inevitably happens. Or maybe the same 50-a-day increment but a higher baseline than zero. That way the desire mechanic exists somewhere but Musings is safe.

B) If possible, alter the timer on Musings. Manju is a loving soul; she understands life happens. She just wants some consideration, too, yeah? So what if we could visit once a day, but reset wouldn't happen unless you missed something like three days or a week in a row? Then in-character it would feel like we were actually away long enough to be 'neglecting' our 'friendship', and out-of-character it would be a little more forgiving without losing the risk entirely. Might that be possible?
