It does get pretty interesting, when you end up designing beards for the female avatar. XD
That said, the rule makes sense, considering how many people on Aywas doesn't quite follow the traditional gender binary. So items stay the same regardless of which HA they're used for.

Male and female model designs has to be near identical. It's an actual rule that the only differences allowed, are those made to follow the different shape of the human avatars bodies.
Clothing items should be the same piece of clothing, regardless of what avatar you use to wear it. :)
