T4T: A Little Awareness

Items

"May 19th is World IBD Day.

IBD stands for inflammatory bowel disease, and is about as fun as it sounds. Specifically, it includes the Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Two - permanent - conditions for which there is no known medical cure that works for certain, no proper known cause, and very little support for the people suffering from it, as it's "rude" or even "taboo" to suffer from something, that means you might have to spend a lot of time on (or near) a toilet. Imagine having to explain to your class mates, that you have no energy, because you're loosing both blood and pretty much everything you eat every day, with no time to really get that energy back. Oh, and you need to stay within one minutes walk of an unoccupied toilet to feel comfortable. That's what it's like to have an IBD when the disease is bad. And for those that are really unlucky, this is every day, every week and every month of the year.

IBD usually hits young people between age 15 and 35, but can also hit children or older people. 1 in 200 people in the US are estimated to suffer from it. If you all do the math, it means that there statistically are Aywas users suffering from this as well. So wear the little hair clip for support the people that might be too shy - or even embarrassed - to explain about their unique daily challenges."

This item will stock in Trash for Treasure until 11:59pm May 26th.

I actually just was diagnosed with IBS about two months ago, but upon further issues, my doctor thinks I have IBD, so this news post speaks volumes to me. ;u; I seriously cannot eat ANYTHING that could maybe sort of kind of potentially upset my stomach otherwise I'll regret it for days. DAYS. So thank you so much for this. ;;;; so so so much...

I know two people with Crohn's and I'm so happy to see there's a support day for such individuals. Putting on that ribbon asap.

I really feel bad for anyone that suffers from such. My dad actually has Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and it has caused him so many problems for years, and even lost a job or 2 because of it, and it's not nearly as bad as the IBD diseases. I can only imagine how bad it is for those 1 out of 200 people. But they'll always have the support of a wonderful community!!

It makes me really happy to see this!

Although not the illnesses mentioned I'm diagnosed with IBS, which at times gives me symptoms similar to those mentioned above, but on a less permanent basis, and lacking the internal damage the others can cause. At least that's what the doctors have said, I haven't been properly tested as it isn't something they gave a lot of focus too. Instead I was on pills for 2 and a half years, lost almost all my weight and refusing to eat (literally skeletal) and the anxiety of needing the toilet meant I wouldn't go out for long journeys and I would go to school for classes only then come straight back home in any free periods. On top of that, from fear of needing the toilet I wouldn't eat anything before or during college, meaning I was borderline fainting by the end of the day. It didn't seem stupid at the time because I was genuinely terrified of eating, with no concern or help from any of my doctors.

I lost almost all my friends who insisted I was anorexic or seeking attention, and some even teased or made fun of me. It was only a couple of caring teachers that really helped me through the school days by making sure I was okay, and taking my problem seriously. The physical and social impacts were so terrifying that I nearly didn't apply for university.

Thankfully my life has turned around since, I've removed myself from the stress sources which heighten the condition, learnt what foods are better for my system and I'm back to a healthy weight. I think awareness of bowel diseases and illnesses is great and it makes me so happy to see it on aywas!!!

Thanks for doing this! I have several relatives that have both inflammatory bowel disease and ulcerative colitis. It means a lot to see this!
