One of the other admins suggested bringing back the Random Item Event! For the next 24 hours, every $5 spent in GP (or USD Shop) will result in a manually sent, admin-selected random item bonus.
These items are usually pretty interesting, sometimes awesome... perhaps you'll get lucky?

This ends at 6:00 PM Aywas Time January 19, 2015.
Note: Transaction amounts cannot be combined, that would make this impossible to do - it is only each $5 PER transaction. EG: $16.99 = 3 bonus items.

So how long does it take for items to show? I bought 11GP to be sure I was in the amount needed this time around but nothing has shown up yet?

You have to purchase GP from the "Purchase GP" feature or spend USD in the cash shop to earn the bonus items. Spending GP on site features doesn't work for the event.

@#755 oh! the wording "For the next 24 hours, every $5 spent in GP (or USD Shop)..." came off as "for every five 5$ spent in the gp shop or the usd shop-" to me. you might want to clarify it as "for every 5 gp purchased or 5$ spent in the usd store-". Since. I was saving up that gp I spent and wouldn't have used it otherwise, but was/am happy to buy gp/usd items.
