I am honestly very disappointed with the results of this poll, this base demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of Japanese culture that has been used really disrespectfully. She's not even wearing it right, she's wearing the """""yukata""""" top, if that's what it could even be called at this point, as if she were a corpse dressed for burial. I don't even want to think about that ridiculous sideways obi. What has happened here is really disappointing, someone who obviously knew nothing about traditional Japanese attire bypassed respectful use to make some weird franken-outfit that is obviously a mishmash of concepts. Combining the fashion misappropriations with the fact that she stands on her hind legs like a bakeneko but has the tail of a kitsune really shows that little to no thought was put into actually being respectful of the culture that originated these ideas and ripped them from that context. Very disappointed that so many people voted for this. :/

@Lady Evelon I honestly don't care to be respectful to racists, because silence is an endorsement and a gentle talk gives them the impression that their opinion based on a total misunderstanding of how things work is valid.

I did not mean to be disrespectful to anyone. I simply drew inspiration from the Japanese culture. The set was not meant to be a representation of traditional garb, but merely an inspired version of Japanese garments and mythology. I wasn't attempting harm or upset anyone through the creation of this set and I apologize if I have done that.

I don't think you should be so quick to judge the reasons behind this base. It's not very considerate to be so blatant as to call someone racist and disrespectful when you don't actually know the person. I can understand being a little put off by something you view as disrespectful, I get that- but then coming out to call someone racist when this is clearly nothing to do with race or putting down another culture is rather ignorant of you.

I would agree that if you have more to say on the matter, take it to PM or perhaps rant about it on the forums.

And I'm not sure how much exposure you've had to anthropomorphic artwork when drawn with human forms- but it's typical to see hind legs like that in artwork of the kind.

No one is saying you have to like this set or even really agree with it, but at least have the decency to be considerate to people's feelings and not be such a bully.

I really don't see how calling out racism, whether overt OR internalized, makes me a bully or a hater. I am entitled to speak and point out why this is hugely disrespectful and problematic. It was tasteless and I am allowed to express my disappointment. But please, tell me more about how I'm just on some sort of misguided vendetta hatemission.

So what you're basically saying is, that no fantasy sets on Aywas is allowed to draw inspiration from any other culture than European medieval age. Anything else would be disrespectful, so all fantasy sets ever made from now on out has to be European!
I mean, seriously, it's pretty clear that this set isn't mean to be historically accurate, but rather fantasy drawing inspiration from Japanese, the same way most fantasy sets here are drawing inspiration from European fairy tales, but often giving it their own modern touches.
Everything from now on has to be based on Christian European mythology and fairytales. No vikings, no genie or 10001 Night inspiration, no Day of the Dead or anything South American, noting African and Egyptian and most importantly; absolutely no Asian inspiration ever...

If you ever were to do anything based on stuff outside of Europe, it has to be 100% historical accurate. It cannot be fantasy, only 100% historical accuracy is good enough.
If people start to complain about the lack of representation of anything else than European fantasy, we can just refer to this, and tell them that they cannot see elements from their culture represented ever, as it might insult someone.

What I really don't get is - why - you're only saying anything now...
An earlier version of this set was submitted last month. You could have easily contacted the artist then, and politely suggested she changed the things you didn't like. But you never did that...
You also didn't respond during the time people submitted bases - when the artist still had time to change things.
in fact, you didn't even respond during voting, suggesting to people that they voted for something else.
Only after the fact did you start complaining. When it's too late! Why?!? It's too late to change things now. Why not give out suggestions for change while there's actually still time to do something about it? rather than starting to trow out racism accusations after the fact.
