Awareness Days!

Site Update

Today marks the start of Asexual Awareness Week. To recognize the week, we've decided to add a section to the sidebar with little icons linking to informational places for each event. AVEN is a good community and forum for asexual folks, and Ace Awareness Week, of course, has its own website.

Intersex Awareness Day is also today! ISNA is a good reference, and Bodies Like Ours is a support network and forum for intersex folks.

We can't always organize an event around important awareness dates, but we can provide some information for them on the sidebar when we have the chance to. If you'd like to see an icon show up on the sidebar, come check out this thread and fill out the form on the first post to make an awareness day suggestion. Be sure to include an item suggestion, as the item images link to informational websites!

It really made my day to see these earlier. I'm brand new here and, as an aro ace individual, seeing you all helping out with asexual awareness just made me feel 10x as welcome. The importance of visibility really cannot be understated and I hope the link helps some people (I'm certain it will).
I look forward to seeing more Awareness days/weeks pop up there as I'm sure many will help me further educate myself as well.
Thank you!

Thank you so much. This means an incredible amount to me as an asexual person, especially since the site's not under any obligation to raise awareness and isn't getting money or anything out of it. I am so glad that you care. It's more than a lot of people I know would think to do. Thank you.

I'm asexual but I sometimes see no need for this. It is a nice touch I suppose, so okay.

I think this is amazing! I love the links and I love that you put in all sorts of awareness days. ^^ It's not often I see something about asexuality and, as an asexual person, I love it.

Glad to see the links added, however right on the ISNA website it says: While some intersex people seek to reclaim the word hermaphrodite with pride to reference themselves, weve learned over the years it is best generally avoided, since the political subtlety is lost on a lot of people." So, uh, can we please remove the "hermaphrodite" gender option for pets? As an intersex person the word is triggering to me, there's no reason for a slur to pop up as a random gender of caught pets.

you have no idea how happy I was to see the flags yesterday, as an aroace myself I was ecstatic enough at the HA item from the sexualities event, to see Aywas celebrating the week is just... Thank you all so much. It's a small thing, but even if just one person clicks the link and finds they aren't broken, that they don't have to have the feelings all society pushes them to focus on, every single thing is worth it.
