Awareness Days!

Site Update

Today marks the start of Asexual Awareness Week. To recognize the week, we've decided to add a section to the sidebar with little icons linking to informational places for each event. AVEN is a good community and forum for asexual folks, and Ace Awareness Week, of course, has its own website.

Intersex Awareness Day is also today! ISNA is a good reference, and Bodies Like Ours is a support network and forum for intersex folks.

We can't always organize an event around important awareness dates, but we can provide some information for them on the sidebar when we have the chance to. If you'd like to see an icon show up on the sidebar, come check out this thread and fill out the form on the first post to make an awareness day suggestion. Be sure to include an item suggestion, as the item images link to informational websites!

Lyra & Sathy (#37548) They're not trying to "bring down the happiness" they're just expressing a dislike of the change to the site layout. The desire to remove the option has nothing to do with the content of the addition, just the addition of icons and links to the side bar that are not Aywas-related.

I'm wondering if I missed a news post about it, but I noticed the first Flag pop up when the newsest items on the side were disabled...I love the awareness for this week! But I'm wondering if that's connected to the Newest Items being disabled of if that was another issue for some reason.

Thanks for any response c:

Still makes for the sad that people don't wanna see :( Hopefully it can be implemented if it bothers people that much though. - L

Thank you for the flags! Is a cute little way to spread awareness and it doesn't take up too much space for those who are weird about new things like that.

Most sites implement permanent changes to their layouts, though??? And people will complain, yeah, but they usually end up dealing with the changes or leaving. The awareness flags are small and sit on the left of the site without really doing anything to destroy the layout? They're small add-ons.

I'd like to emphasize what The Glorious Goat said, in no way should anyone's happiness be brought down by people's desire to remove the icons. Each person plays Aywas for their own reasons and each should be allowed to play the game the way they choose. As a hypersensitive, extremely visual individual having the excess icons really, really annoy me. It's like someone's put a sticky note on my computer to remind me of something, but I'm not allowed to take it down. It's such a strong visual cue for me that I, personally, simply can't ignore that sticky note and I want it to go away. It's the icons I want to remove, not the awareness.

I love this new feature. (And I'm willing to bet real money that if it had been the Newest Items thing that had been brought back, people wouldn't be making nearly as big a fuss about it.)

I just wanted to say, thank you SO much for this! For myself and for most others I know, this is a welcome and greatly appreciated feature.
