The Kityip Hybrid

Pets

Kityip_200.png
"You can now call me a Kityip!"

The hybrid previously known as a Bunyip has been renamed to Kityip, per a community suggestion, since the original unintentionally shared a name with a mythical creature from Aboriginal/Australian mythology. Our apologies for any confusion or upset this might have caused, as the name was purely meant to be a bunny/fox combo, and was not intended as a cultural slight, and was an oversight on our part.

Thank you for the feedback as always! We hope everyone can enjoy this new hybrid. :3

Sides I am meaning spite in a fun term not a "Oh lets just be racist" no I actually think- contrary to other users- that the actual Bunyip is kinda cute~

@Valice, no i do apologize for that. I regretted it soon as i posted it so Sorry.

I do stand by my opinion of belittling others cultures which i find rude when it is just a name change, which while the new name might not seem as cute to you fixes the issue with using a cultural reference wrong, and perhaps opens the door for a more Bunyip looking creature in the future.

I'm all for the changing of other names that hold cultural significance with their origins, should they be offensive as well. though it might be difficult since they've been around longer. a lot of uninformed/bad decisions have been made over aywas past, and good on the staff for at least trying to make an effort now and listening to the userbase about the decisions they are making currently, rather than dismissing people as "sjws" for trying to have a little social awareness. aywas from the very beginning has been known to make decisions after extensive discussion with the userbase in the forums, without the use of polls. this isn't new. it's just difficult to do this all the time now that the userbase has grown so large.

I am not "belittling" culture, it is a name not a religion! Again I state that is like saying a kid named Lucifer is going to be Satan!

I'm sorry you feel this way, Valice & Fenris, but I don't think 'because I liked it the other way' is the best argument to make a case for how it was. There were multiple reasons for the change.

Inari is from Japanese culture, which overall sees more representation and is of a people that are in charge of their own country. The bunyip's origin is ... far less privileged. In addition, the hybrid is of two very damaging, invasive species to the respective country.

I can try to understand why there's a cognitive dissonance why one name has been protested and it appears the other has not, but the truth is there's politics involved. It's a little more complicated than it might look.

It's a name of something significant to our culture and you are saying it doesn't matter because you like the name, pretty sure you are belittling us.

Your further comment about lucifer not being satan makes no sense.

Now you I can debate with, yes & I understand all of that, but somewhat I do not understand why a name, which could be reused for things such as RP characters, could bring so many people to distaste a single pixel creature. In my mind I look at the name & think "Aw it is such a cute name!" & on the other hand I think "Oh cool I can make it into an awesome hyrbid that looks like it mythological creature!" ++ in my book. But other are here like "Oooh, its a vile creature in lore, kill it with fire!" (just a simple expression so I do not pick out users) & immediately want it abolished. I understand & I do not, but I am not trying to offend or belittle anything. I am stating a "Opinion" yet some users think I am throwing a hissy fit, when I am not. Truth be told I am actually getting mad at some responses.
