"You can now call me a Kityip!"
The hybrid previously known as a Bunyip has been renamed to Kityip, per a community suggestion, since the original unintentionally shared a name with a mythical creature from Aboriginal/Australian mythology. Our apologies for any confusion or upset this might have caused, as the name was purely meant to be a bunny/fox combo, and was not intended as a cultural slight, and was an oversight on our part.
Thank you for the feedback as always! We hope everyone can enjoy this new hybrid. :3

Even if it were my culture, I wouldn't care. That's what I'm tying to say. I don't care what they call the pets. They are cute and that's why I want them. I (still) don't know all the names of the pets here. I don't really pay attention to what they are called, I pay attention to their designs, that's what I like.

Imagine some poor Aywas user searching for fluffy Kityips and ending up with a Bunyip snarling at them. That'd be a bit of a shock.

I have to agree with others that "kit" does not at all associate with a bunny.. but I can see "yip" with fox. I wasn't for or against the name change, but I saw the thread that sparked this and could see why it was wanted. I'm just kinda glad that staff here cares enough to listen to users, whether everyone agrees or not, the staff act like real people.

it's a good decision, both for the cultural significance and the fact that this thing doesn't even resemble a bunyip at all. it doesn't need to have the obvious "bun" sound in the name to get across that it's rabbitlike. and here i thought people would have a smile upon finding out that baby rabbits are called kits or kittens. i mean, how cute is that? try and look up some other animals...you will be surprised at what their young are called. if you are still stressed about this, try drinking some chamomile tea and consider getting over it.

I'm sorry but it really doesn't effect those who had no issue with the original name. You may have liked the original, but the original name held a lot of meaning to an entire group of people. Just because it means nothing to do, doesn't mean it isn't important to someone else. And it wasn't just a few people complaining, or a small discussion, there was a HUGE discussion regarding it in the suggestions forum for several days. So this really wasn't just sprung on the people, and even if it would have went to voting it almost definitely would have been changed anyways. Many people were bothered by the name, and many more people agreed with the rename because it bothered those original people.
Just because *you* wouldn't care if it was your culture... doesn't mean that other people of your culture wouldn't. So chill, it literally does not effect your game play at all..

I love how supposedly the reason we're not getting a vote on this is because "people will complain" when that's exactly what everyone is doing right now because the name change just seems silly. No one was offended by the the kodama or inari, why should this offend? It seems to me people these days get offended by the slightest things. If a few users complaining can change it, why can't a few users protesting at LEAST have the name changed to something a bit cuter, rather than this sharp-sounding clipped thing? Personally (after reading through all the comments) I very much liked the suggestion for bunkitsu...it sounded very cute.

And here we go with the name change I feared. While I personnaly don't really care about the name (well, still glad the "vulpunny" suggestion wasn't chosen), I'm not really happy about the reasons why the name changed. But oh well, I guess there is no way for everyone to be pleased. (and please, don't start telling me why I'm wrong and how I don't understand australian culture, cause I was in the original debate, and while I'm really fond of all mythologies, I just think this went too far). Anyway, no time for complaining now - I just hope people won't feel bad about the name anymore, now
