"You can now call me a Kityip!"
The hybrid previously known as a Bunyip has been renamed to Kityip, per a community suggestion, since the original unintentionally shared a name with a mythical creature from Aboriginal/Australian mythology. Our apologies for any confusion or upset this might have caused, as the name was purely meant to be a bunny/fox combo, and was not intended as a cultural slight, and was an oversight on our part.
Thank you for the feedback as always! We hope everyone can enjoy this new hybrid. :3

I would probably be more supportive if the first complainer hadn't been so rude and hostile about the initial name. :/ But as long as it stops the raging, I suppose.

I'd just like to say that I appreciate that the staff made a difficult decision surrounding the name change of the Kityip née Bunyip. I think that using a vote to determine whether or not to change the name would have been a poor decision, but I also think a vote would have been nice for choosing a new name. That way, the userbase would feel more emotionally attached to the new name, which they had voted for, instead of just having a new name thrust upon them. That being said, I like that the staff was conscientious about changing the pet's name to something that wasn't offensive.

Rocket, voting on names is a bad idea; someone somewhere would hate the results regardless and then there would be more anger and hissy fits. It would just invite even more squabbling.

I did wonder about Bunyip, as it was a big jump from the namesake to the pet...but "Kityip", however logically derived, is a little awkward on the tongue - "Vulkit" is taken elsewhere, but how about Vulbun, or Vullap?

I'm really glad for the name change, and I really appreciate that staff is sensitive to user concerns like this! ;w; It's so nice to be on a site where the staff are socially aware and open minded.

A sad day when I notice one mythical creature gets more respect than most religious people out there...comparing "Oh, we're potentially offending a portion of a smaller religion, let's fix that." to "We'll make fun of a major world religion all day long by equating everyone in it to some stupid loudmouths in it." (This is not a problem with Aywas, just the world in general. Aywas is one of the nicer corners of the planet.)
That being said, it's a nice enough name, keeps the -yip that makes it so fun.
Even when this came out, my brain knew Bunyip was something else, but didn't really bother to look up where that little brain twitch led, figuring the staff had looked into it and it had something to do with bunnies/foxes. Now I may have to.
From singingbadger- Vullap is kinda okay, but both it and Vulbun are more awkward on the tongue (for me). They are also more serious sounding, where Kityip maintains the original childish fun of the former name. Straying too far from Bunyip might have just made even more people miffed.

As always, handled very well by staff. Thank you for your hard work, everyone! I am happy to see that Aywas has certainly been taking many positive steps in the right direction and standing up for minorities.

I think people need to stop being so dramatic. The name needed to be changed! It's like if you called something cute and fluffy a rougarou, I'd get pissed because Cajun culture is important to me. Actually, Supernatural used the rougarou myth and totally bastardized it and that made me soooo angry.
Aywas is one of the most inclusive sites and it actually LISTENS to users. When something is wrong, you guys actually do something about it. I hadn't seen anything about this since I don't frequent the forums but I appreciate the change because my culture is important to me, and because of that, I understand where any Australian/Aboriginal people are coming from. I may not personally have any ties to the Australian/Aboriginal mythos but I DO agree that it is a fitting change. It's good that you listened. This site earned brownie points today, imo.

Guys, please stop complaining. The name is now Kityip. End of story.
