Site Update
Rudi says:
Hi! I'm holding a Winter Pet Drive, and I'd love for you to participate! If you have any unwanted pets, Santa Lunaris and I will find a great new home for them.
Click here to go to the Pet Drive!
Rules
- The Pet Drive ends 11:59 PM December 24th
- The top donator per genus will win a 50% edited custom voucher for that genus.
- Players may win a maximum of two genera. If they win more than two, they will be asked to pick two and the remaining winning pets will be defaulted to the second place winners (and so forth).
- Players may turn in site pets or customs to the drive - it's up to the player.
Enjoy!

"donated" pets are deleted. gone forever. thrown away to make server space. no one else gets them - that's just a bit of candy coating to make it sound nice. I understand the need to decrease load on the server, but there has to be a better - and more honest - way to go about it...especially since many people have donated "good" pets in the confusion that they might not have otherwise - and the ones that actually NEED to be thinned out (the ones common to all Explore areas, for example) will be frequently overlooked as they likely have no chance of taking a genus prize, while exotics that new members would kill for are getting chucked as they DO have a shot at a win.

(A better answer would be to put something REALLY desirable in Spence's Trash Shop - items vastly outnumber pets and get hoarded much more - and break no one's heart when they get sacrificed.)

While I understand trying to decrease the number of pets on site, the problem is that Aywas has rewards, for lack of a better phrasing, a "Gotta catch 'em all" mentality. Between Pet Research, Scavenger Hunt, BP rewards from passersby in Adventure, and a 'captured' feature of the Aywapedia, there's plenty of reasons to try and get as many different kinds of each genus as you can. You could fix half of the rewards by having 'captured' apply even if the pet is no longer with you (though that may have its own data storage issues...), and then if 'captured' but not currently with you, you get 500BP instead of 1000 in Adventure. But I won't be donating anything as again, I'm rewarded for keeping what I have.

Clearly this is some sort of demonic ritual. Throwing pets into a sacrificial pit to get a fancy item. That's my headcanon explanation for why Rudi would say such a thing when the pets are actually just going to be deleted.
I honestly would have preferred either a drive that gives the donated pets to other (new?) users, or a note on the news post that the donated pets are actually being deleted. I understand wanting an in-world explanation for the contest, but it's more important that the users fully understand what the contest actually means.
It's a new idea that will be fun for some, but I personally do not see a reason to throw away money (since pets equate to BP or even GP) for a long shot at winning (as Ellie-Maie said). But then again I feel that way for most site contests.

Darn it I really thought others were going to get some good pets. So I wanted to help with that and started donating pets that I would have keep :/
