Yoo hoo! *waves hanky* It's me again with another special delivery!
Did you know that today is Book Lover's Day? No? Well, neither did I until Shaylmesse (#13314) brought it to my attention-- and I'm blushing to have to admit my ignorance, because there are few greater pleasures than curling up with a good book! If you're like me and would just love to have your own little personal library, why don't you try Shaylmesse's gift on for size?
The Book Lover's Background is available in the Advent Calendar for the duration of today and tomorrow, up until August 10th, 11:59pm.
Ooh, but wait! There's more!
Tell me your favourite book (and why!) in the comments and you could be in with a chance of winning this set of custom crystals! I'm in need of some good new holiday reads and I'm sure I can't be the only one. :3 Chime in by August 10th, 11:59pm to ensure your spot in the draw (one entry per account, please).
Ooh, but wait! There's even more!!!
Do you remember I mentioned earlier in the week that I was having a tidy of my inbox? The invitation (and encouragement!) to nudge your outstanding Artist Pay is still open, but today I am asking you to bump up PMs pertaining to Lunarii switches. That means if you picked up the wrong Lunaris for the month and you're still waiting on me to swap 'em around for you, point yourself to my inbox sharpish!
Phew! Okay! That's everything - probably! Who knows! Yay! Exclamation marks!
Thank you for the background, Shaylmesse!
Just smell those new pages!

I've enjoyed reading series 'Discworld' by Terry Pratchett the most. Fantasy, magic, characters you love and care about. However, the best in the series is humor. Every and each book made me laugh so many times. Any other book can't come up to them.

Can't pick just one! My favorite author is Sherrilyn Kenyon - she writes fantasy/action/romance novels that are just incredible. In the not-so-romancy category, a friend of mine recently recommended Jim Butcher's Dresden Files to me, and I have to admit, I'm loving them. I don't usually like first person POV, but his books are really interesting. The main character is both powerful and flawed, and the humor in the books are just great. I just finished the sixth one a few days ago!

One of my all time fave books is Brave New world by Aldous Huxley. Why? Because I guess I'm just a dystopian fantasy fan like that. XD

Technically it's three books, but I'd recommend the His Dark Materials trilogy (known by some for the Golden Compass movie, which wasn't too bad).
This series is one of those rare works of fantasy that doesn't fall into the common tropes associated with the genre. I've never really read anything like them before or since. As well as being great adventures, they also touch on philosophy, theology and science fiction.
There's been a bit of controversy surrounding the series because of its messages about religion, and is viewed by some as anti-Christian. However, most people see its theme as anti-dogma, and even the Arch Bishop of Canterbury defended the series as an enlightening read.

Oh gosh, I have to pick one? I would say my favorite is this obscure book called "The Heavenly Horse From the Outermost West" by Mary Stanton. I picked it up long ago at a bookstore that was going out of business. I loved it so much because i love horses, and its about horses, but also because it gave a unique perspective on how the different breeds were born. It entwined the mystical, and was entertaining all the way through!
Other books I recommend are the Xanth Series by Piers Anthony because its full of puns and hilarity ("A Spell for Chemeleon" is the first of the books). The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Begal ans The Neverending Story are always fabulous as well.

Anything by Christopher Moore (funny, snarky, clever, a bit tongue in cheek, heartwarming, great writing. I, personally, have a soft spot for 'A Dirty Job' and 'Fool'.) or Neil Gaiman (imaginative, dark fantasy. There's something truly fantastic about his writing that I can't quite put into words. He also wrote an episode of Doctor Who and a story that was turned into a movie. 'Mirrormask'.)
As for specifics; Girl in The Cellar by Allan Hall and Michael Leidig is a true story about a young, Austrian (I believe) girl who was kidnapped and held in a tiny, underground room for years before eventually escaping. The Hunger Games, of course. Veronica Roth's Divergent and the rest of that series. John Dies at the End by David Wong is /absolutely/ fantastic. Great, clever writing and so original and just amazing! Can't recommend it enough. Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet. Libba Bray's 'A Great and Terrible Beauty' series. Cornelia Funke's 'Inkheart' trilogy. Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' series.
Okay, so that's more than one, but I seriously love books! :3 OH! And for poetry, anything by Shel Silverstein.

How could I forget?! The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis. :D I know some people are less than thrilled about the Christian themes and such, but I would really recommend them to anyone, Christian or not. They're great books.

XD hmmmm. Good books. It really depends on what you enjoy reading, genre wise. I'm a huge Anne mccaffrey fan- not just the dragons of Pern but all her books. One I really adore above all was the ship who sang. Because Helva= awesomesauce.

Ever since I read it, my favourite book is 'The mists of Avalon' by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It is a tale about king Arthur and the Round Table, told from the perspective of his half sister Morgaine. It is the perfect book for long reading! ^-^
