Yoo hoo! *waves hanky* It's me again with another special delivery!
Did you know that today is Book Lover's Day? No? Well, neither did I until Shaylmesse (#13314) brought it to my attention-- and I'm blushing to have to admit my ignorance, because there are few greater pleasures than curling up with a good book! If you're like me and would just love to have your own little personal library, why don't you try Shaylmesse's gift on for size?
The Book Lover's Background is available in the Advent Calendar for the duration of today and tomorrow, up until August 10th, 11:59pm.
Ooh, but wait! There's more!
Tell me your favourite book (and why!) in the comments and you could be in with a chance of winning this set of custom crystals! I'm in need of some good new holiday reads and I'm sure I can't be the only one. :3 Chime in by August 10th, 11:59pm to ensure your spot in the draw (one entry per account, please).
Ooh, but wait! There's even more!!!
Do you remember I mentioned earlier in the week that I was having a tidy of my inbox? The invitation (and encouragement!) to nudge your outstanding Artist Pay is still open, but today I am asking you to bump up PMs pertaining to Lunarii switches. That means if you picked up the wrong Lunaris for the month and you're still waiting on me to swap 'em around for you, point yourself to my inbox sharpish!
Phew! Okay! That's everything - probably! Who knows! Yay! Exclamation marks!
Thank you for the background, Shaylmesse!
Just smell those new pages!

I think my favorite book is probably Archangel by Sharon Shinn. It's my favorite because it is a fantasy book, written with a similar feel to it as the Dragonriders of Pern stories, but it's the author's creative spin on some of our oldest literature, pertaining to angels and prophets and Gaza/Samaria. It's not meant as an offence to any who may be religious, but I love, absolutely love how she thinks outside of the box with something that so many refuse to wiggle the tiniest bit. It is the first of a series, but it's a good one!
Some other really good books are:
Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality
Lisanne Norman's Sholan Alliance series
and if you like the real-life based stuff, albeit sad, I recommend "One More Day" and "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom.

You can't go wrong with Maximum Ride by James Patterson, it is a series about genetically mutated bird children! There is even a graphic novel. Oh, and the Firelight series by Sophie Jordan is good too.

The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers. It's like Roald Dahl for adults. :) It's also something of a love letter to to book-lovers.

I could never choose a favorite book, it's between pretty much anything written by Brent Weeks, the Temeraire series, and the Discworld series

My favorite book (and the series following it) is called Assassins Apprentice by Robin Hobb. Medieval fantasy with a nice bit of magic thrown in for good measure, but definitely aimed at an older audience due to some graphic violence.

My favorite book would have to be 11/22/63 by Stephen King.
My dad brought it for me to read while I was in in-patient care at the hospital. I blew through it over the weekend and had something to think about other than how miserable my situation was - and I guess it also helped me remember that my dad was just trying to help and that he still gave half a damn about me.

The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien!
I have a passion for tales. They are intertwined with the history and natural surrounding of a people and form a perfect combination of history and fairy tale. The Silmarillion is, in essence, an assembly of tales from the Beginning of Time until the end of the First Age construed around the fate of the three Silmarilli. My favourite tale is the one about The Two Trees of Valinor included in The Beginning of Days. It deals with the creation of day and night, includes a beautiful description of the Two Trees and, in that way, adresses my love for tales and nature alike. In addition, the Two Trees form a thread that runs through The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Tolkien himself writes that about the fate of the Trees "all the tales of the Elder Days are woven." Even in Lord of the Rings we meet the Golden Woods of Lorien and the White Tree of Minas Tirith that have sprung from those first Two Trees.
