Yoo hoo! *waves hanky* It's me again with another special delivery!

Did you know that today is Book Lover's Day? No? Well, neither did I until Shaylmesse (#13314) brought it to my attention-- and I'm blushing to have to admit my ignorance, because there are few greater pleasures than curling up with a good book! If you're like me and would just love to have your own little personal library, why don't you try Shaylmesse's gift on for size?

The Book Lover's Background is available in the Advent Calendar for the duration of today and tomorrow, up until August 10th, 11:59pm.

Ooh, but wait! There's more!

Tell me your favourite book (and why!) in the comments and you could be in with a chance of winning this set of custom crystals! I'm in need of some good new holiday reads and I'm sure I can't be the only one. :3 Chime in by August 10th, 11:59pm to ensure your spot in the draw (one entry per account, please).

Ooh, but wait! There's even more!!!

Do you remember I mentioned earlier in the week that I was having a tidy of my inbox? The invitation (and encouragement!) to nudge your outstanding Artist Pay is still open, but today I am asking you to bump up PMs pertaining to Lunarii switches. That means if you picked up the wrong Lunaris for the month and you're still waiting on me to swap 'em around for you, point yourself to my inbox sharpish!

Phew! Okay! That's everything - probably! Who knows! Yay! Exclamation marks!

Thank you for the background, Shaylmesse!

Just smell those new pages!

My favorite book is a series by Jean M. Auel. The Earth Children series. It is beautifully written, with attention to detail, and sweeping imagery. It is just fantastic.

I can easily pick Watership Down by Richard Adams. It's a great escape from modern writing and has an interesting plot and unique characters. I've read it several times and it never seems to lose effect.

I have three favorite books.

The first is called "Mindblind" by Jennifer Roy. I'd have to say i enjoyed Mindblind so much because the main Character, Nathanial, or Nathan, Relates to me in many ways. for one he has a type of autism called aspergers, just like me, and he only has a couple good friends. He is increasingly smart and has graduated highschool much earlier than normal, with perfect grades and SATs. He also creates mathematical equations to help him understand the real world. I also loved the fact that all of his memories are saved / written out like locations of computer files. Nathanials parents are divorced, and his mom babies him while his dad, Frankly doesn't give two hoots, and is more preoccupied with his other "perfect" son from his current marriage. My favorite part of the book is where after Nathan's dad forces him to go to a party (that neither one knew was an underage drinking party) and nathan ends up in the hospital because the alcohol reacted badly with the medication, Nathan begins to write awesome educational songs (one was algebra in a nutshell and another was about geometry).

The Second is called "You Don't know me" by David Klass. In this book, John is living with his mothers boyfriend, Stan, or as John calls him "The man who is not my father." In this book, john creates many alternate realities to cope with his abusive father, one of which where his tuba is a bullfrog. He was so stressed when the teacher called his attention that he yelled about the frog dying, or his tuba dying. In this book, i found it hard to understand him, at first, until the reality of his abusive soon-to-be father sets in. Anyway, John has a crush on this girl, Gloria, whom he refers to as "Glory Hallelujah." He asks her out on a date via note which she eats. She then explains it was so the teacher didn't find out. Anyway, john gets into trouble with glorias parents because she tricked them into thinking something was going on between the two. The part that really created a ton of suspense for me was when Johns soon-to-be father forces john into a business of transporting stolen TVs where John gets beat excessively by Stan and finds out his mother is going to get married to him, not knowing about the abuse.

The last of the three is called "Empty" by Suzanne Weyn. This story switches between three characters, back and forth; Gwen, tom, and Niki. It goes back and forth between how them and their families in Spring Valley are holding up due to the oil shortages. This book takes place as a type of so-called "Apocalypse" where gass starts off at 20.00 dollars a gallon and soon rises to over 100 dollars a gallon. One of the features i liked about the book is how real the author made it (i literally felt trapped in their world full of despair and fear) and that they had little "fake" news articles, such as the US going to war with venezuela for oil that in reality, doesn't exist. and to add more to the cake, A giant hurricane hits, flooding the town, and gwen who gets stuck in a mine shaft. The day i started it, i couldn't put it down for more than 10 minutes, because the suspense was killing me... i needed to know if they would make it out alive or if they would survive and how they would go on living without the natural resource of oil... even plastic has become rare. Gwens house goes up in flames because her older brother luke was hoarding gasoline to sell to people. Tom feels a huge weight on his shoulders trying to help all his stranded neighbors and Nikki is still as shallow as ever, but she changes because she's utterly alone, now. I ended up staying up till past 5:00 AM finishing this book, and i'd reccomend it to anyone. It also gives facts about living off-the-grid and stuff about polluting but they are all hidden in the suspense of the novel.

Right now, I would have to say Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. It's a nice brisk read, makes you care about the characters, is funny and it hits you in the feels. That it includes so many little neat nods to Greek and ROman mythology is icing on the cake. c:

I love 'How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe' by Charles Yu. It's scifi with self awareness. And there's time travel! The main character actually fixes time machines to make a living, and flirts with the AI in his own time machine. Their banter is awesome, and the whole book is really funny when it isn't making you cry.
Easily my all time favorite book.

THE LINCOLN RHYME SERIES by Jeffery Deaver :> A series of crime thrillers that are gripping to the end, I absolutely love this series. It not only tackles crimes, it also involves family issues, romance and disability. In fact all of Deaver's novels are a good read, he's also written a couple of James Bond novels :>

One of my favorite's is A Dog's Life: The Autobiography by Ann M. Martin. It's a lower level read, very simplistic, but the story always gets me every time. I love reading it and have read it so many times!

It may not be a challenging read but it's creative and fun. Percy Jackson. The colorful imagination about the mix of Greek myth and modern times. Accurate on the myths, down to each detail. And the blending into modern is seamless. From Poseidon's Hawaii shirt, brumuda shorts and old fishing hat to the dreary, hallow halls of the Underworld.
The pictures made in your mind is what draws me in. I found myself rooting for chars I detested in the start. The backstorys and twists keep you on the edge to the next page and not wanting to wait for the next book.

The first five books, Percy Jackson & the Olympians, are wonderful. But his writing really shines in The Heroes of Olympus. The next book is coming out soon as well. Even the compain books are great reads. Added short stories and little tid-bits of info really make this world come alive. The movies hardly do the books justice and really don't show what the books are about.

By the same author, The Kane Chronicles, is also wonderful. Though the first book is a bit slow and dry, it's really worth reading all three books. It's Egyption Gods and such.

You can really tell he's grown as a writer since his first Percy Jackson book. He's done other works as well, aimed at adults, but I think Percy is by far his best and deserves much more then it's gotten.

There is also a very unknown book, done by an author near me called Shards of the Glass Slipper. An easy way to explain it is think Once Upon a Time kind of thing. But this world is much different, and in my option, much better. Lesser known tales are the main characters. I wont give any spoilers to that. A tale of the under dogs trying to stop the evil queen Cinder. A wonderful twist on old tales really gives it a fresh flavor. It's a bit dark but very vivid. Really pulled you into the world and not letting you go. Not sure how to word things without giving away anything but it's worth looking up. It's not aimed to younger people and I think takes a certain maturity to really appreciate the book.

There is even a CD compain for the book. It's equally as creative. I haven't had a chance to listen to all of it but what I have is simply fantastic. It really fits the mood and gives a good look into just how things are going.

Book two is coming out, I believe, next year. The art is great for it, I have a few prints. The author is amazingly nice, sighed everything for me and replayed quickly to any questions I had. I would love to see him get more recognition for this fantastic book. I promise you wouldn't be disappointed with this read and I hope you'd be as hooked as I am.

I think I rambled on enough.Hopefully people read this and give one or both books a chance as they are certainly worth it.

My favourite book? Song in the Silence by Elizabeth Kerner. Starcrossed lovers are my favourite...barring Romeo and Juliet, which I don't like at all, and this one struck a cord. I've read it a dozen times. =X

I don't have just one favourite book, but I'd say The Hardy Boys series is the one series that I'll enjoy forever. I've been reading those books for what seems like my entire life. Even when new ones no longer get written, there's still the older ones I haven't managed to find at the library or a garage sale, and I definitely don't mind re-reading the ones I own. They are excellent books.
