Yoo hoo! *waves hanky* It's me again with another special delivery!
Did you know that today is Book Lover's Day? No? Well, neither did I until Shaylmesse (#13314) brought it to my attention-- and I'm blushing to have to admit my ignorance, because there are few greater pleasures than curling up with a good book! If you're like me and would just love to have your own little personal library, why don't you try Shaylmesse's gift on for size?
The Book Lover's Background is available in the Advent Calendar for the duration of today and tomorrow, up until August 10th, 11:59pm.
Ooh, but wait! There's more!
Tell me your favourite book (and why!) in the comments and you could be in with a chance of winning this set of custom crystals! I'm in need of some good new holiday reads and I'm sure I can't be the only one. :3 Chime in by August 10th, 11:59pm to ensure your spot in the draw (one entry per account, please).
Ooh, but wait! There's even more!!!
Do you remember I mentioned earlier in the week that I was having a tidy of my inbox? The invitation (and encouragement!) to nudge your outstanding Artist Pay is still open, but today I am asking you to bump up PMs pertaining to Lunarii switches. That means if you picked up the wrong Lunaris for the month and you're still waiting on me to swap 'em around for you, point yourself to my inbox sharpish!
Phew! Okay! That's everything - probably! Who knows! Yay! Exclamation marks!
Thank you for the background, Shaylmesse!
Just smell those new pages!

Current the Series I'm enjoying most is the October Daye books. It's an urban fantasy series dealing with the Fae coexisting in California. Many of the tenants of fae mythos is still paramount, but the adventures are engaging and well worth the read. The lead character is far from perfect and knows it, but growing in each book the way a proper character should.
I've read the current series three times in fact. :)

Kael by Tara McFadden.
It's a relatively new book having just been released, and the author is starting up series. Angels and demons fighting a war in heaven. It's EXTREMELY well-written, and you know it's good if she can get five different atheists to like her incarnation of God. t's more about the fighting and less about religion, and was a great read.

I really enjoy the series Demonata by Darren Shan. He has a short and sweet way of writing, but it doesn't drag away from the action. This particular series of his revolves around several characters, each in different books. They are all revolving stopping the same event over many years of time. If you're a fan of gamecube games like Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, or just in general like stories of demons/the supernatural, this is a good series. (For people who recognize his name, he is also the man who wrote Cirque Du Freak, a story of how a boy became a vampire)

The Pellinor series by Alison Croggon. The first book is called The Gift (but called The Naming in the States). The book is set in a sort of medieval time.. like something similar to Lord of the Rings times, though it is written in normal English. It's about a young teenage girl who was a slave but accidentally came upon a bard (a magician sort of guy) who rescues her and totally changes her life and shows her things about herself which she never knew. I love it because the hero is female and she has a lot of unlocked potential within her which she only learns about when she makes real friends and they show her what it is like to not be a slave... and it uncovers things about her past that she had long forgotten.

I don't know if this counts, being that's it's not actually a book, but I've read a lot of books and a lot of fanfictions, and this is my favorite story. "Civil War" by Sushi. It's a Harry Potter x Severus Snape fanfiction, and it is definitely not for everyone. It's got some really heavy stuff in it, make sure you read the warnings and descriptions first in case you can't handle some stuff. It's also got a lot of dirty parts, but if you read all of it, it's actually really good. I'll admit I found it when I was a teenager exploring my sexuality, but it's a HUGE story and I printed it off because I got so engrossed in it. I recommend reading the whole thing, in order, even though there's a lot of extra stories, it's good, it's worth it.

Horns by Joe Hill is one of the best books I've ever read. It's poignant, crushing, and beautifully-written. The plot turns aren't especially difficult to see coming, but surprise isn't the novel's motive. It opens with all of the surprise it can muster, in a particularly Metamorphosis-esque character introduction. It's one of those books that you read that then makes you want to write, and to write well and beautifully. I can't recommend it enough. An independent film adaptation starring Daniel Radcliffe is in production.
