Yoo hoo! *waves hanky* It's me again with another special delivery!
Did you know that today is Book Lover's Day? No? Well, neither did I until Shaylmesse (#13314) brought it to my attention-- and I'm blushing to have to admit my ignorance, because there are few greater pleasures than curling up with a good book! If you're like me and would just love to have your own little personal library, why don't you try Shaylmesse's gift on for size?
The Book Lover's Background is available in the Advent Calendar for the duration of today and tomorrow, up until August 10th, 11:59pm.
Ooh, but wait! There's more!
Tell me your favourite book (and why!) in the comments and you could be in with a chance of winning this set of custom crystals! I'm in need of some good new holiday reads and I'm sure I can't be the only one. :3 Chime in by August 10th, 11:59pm to ensure your spot in the draw (one entry per account, please).
Ooh, but wait! There's even more!!!
Do you remember I mentioned earlier in the week that I was having a tidy of my inbox? The invitation (and encouragement!) to nudge your outstanding Artist Pay is still open, but today I am asking you to bump up PMs pertaining to Lunarii switches. That means if you picked up the wrong Lunaris for the month and you're still waiting on me to swap 'em around for you, point yourself to my inbox sharpish!
Phew! Okay! That's everything - probably! Who knows! Yay! Exclamation marks!
Thank you for the background, Shaylmesse!
Just smell those new pages!

East: by author, Edith Pattou, a spin off of Beauty and the Beast and derived from a Norwegian folk-story. It's a great story told from multiple perspectives and tracks the life of the beast and the main character Rose through all the cardinal directions as she travels to save him from his dreadful curse. It includes different lands with different languages, magic, bonds forged and destroyed, and mystery. Rose risks life and limb to do what is right and discovers love along the way.

My favorite book is Mistborn, by Brandon Sanderson. All of his books are well-written and have fabulous and deep characters that somehow sneak themselves into your heart. :3

I don't think that I can rightly name a FAVORITE book, but I will pick one of my favorites! I have favorites for so many different genres, but I'm choosing a novel that really belongs up there with lauded modern literature and is just a plain good read.
"Up Jumps the Devil" by Michael Poore. That book was a total surprise to me - I picked it up in an airport because I liked the cover and the bit on the back, but didn't expect it to be such an awesome, memorable read. The character of the Devil is so well put together and thought-out in this book; he's not evil, he's not good, but he's definitely a force to be reckoned with! I especially like the way that the author manages to weave the Devil's past into the history of North America, and how he's worked it so that our past and current events all play in to his overall goal for humankind.

My favorite book is actually a series of books called the In Death by JD Robb. It's set in the future after a global war that has pretty much screwed up the economy. Everything is soy based & fresh veggies, fruits & meat is for the farmers or the very rich. The main character is a female homicide detective & her team as well as a few regular characters that she interacts with in her day to day routines & as she investigates murders. There are 48 books currently in the series & so far the author has no plans to end it. She said as long as the fans love the books she will continue to write them. Fair warning though these books aren't for the young as there are some rather detailed & gruesome murder scenes

I have way too many favorite books, hahaha. But one is the Gone series. It's interesting, dark, squeamish at times, and has a lot of diversity in the cast.

There are so many books I could go on about, but my current favourite would have to be Infected and its follow-up Contagious, by Scott Sigler. Technically I "read" them as podcast audiobooks produced by the author, but they are available in hardcover format too :P They're sci-fi novels about a parasitic alien invasion. I like to describe the parasitism as "schizophrenic morgellon's" to sum all the aspects up. Lots of gory action (I had aural trainwreck syndrome, I swear -- "THAT'S SO HORRIBLE I need to hear what comes next"), lots of tense suspense/thriller writing, and probably my favourite aspect of the books has been the science part of the science fiction. No hand-wavey stuff has been involved; he had consultants in various fields to make sure it was all as realistic as he could make it, and for me the segments going in-depth on the alien stuff, whether it's the biology of the aliens or the mechanics of the vessel or what have you, tend to be among the most fascinating parts.
I'm planning to spend this weekend preparing my MP3 player with his other podcasts for his other books, actually, now that I've discovered him, but since I haven't listened/read yet I can't recommend any of the rest :P Infected and Contagious would probably have my heart anyway, as I'm a huge sci-fi junkie; if anyone liked Andromeda Strain, this is probably up your alley.

The Seven Wars series by E.H. Kindred. They're well written, and the characters are great.

My favourite book is The Darkest Hour by Erin hunter. I like it out of all the other books in the series because its unique in its own way besides the other books. Scourge and Firestar at the end of the book battle it out, leaving scourge dead and the sun to rise, leaving peace in the forest when Bloodclan retreated back to the streets. I love each war throughout those books, Because out of any other book in the world, They are the most unique, In my opinion, And Most end out in peace c:

Glen Cook's Chronicles of the Black Company series! dark gritty fantasy, interesting and different from everything i've read before. they're published in omnibuses, and as far as I know there are four, but i can never find number three :C
