Yoo hoo! *waves hanky* It's me again with another special delivery!
Did you know that today is Book Lover's Day? No? Well, neither did I until Shaylmesse (#13314) brought it to my attention-- and I'm blushing to have to admit my ignorance, because there are few greater pleasures than curling up with a good book! If you're like me and would just love to have your own little personal library, why don't you try Shaylmesse's gift on for size?
The Book Lover's Background is available in the Advent Calendar for the duration of today and tomorrow, up until August 10th, 11:59pm.
Ooh, but wait! There's more!
Tell me your favourite book (and why!) in the comments and you could be in with a chance of winning this set of custom crystals! I'm in need of some good new holiday reads and I'm sure I can't be the only one. :3 Chime in by August 10th, 11:59pm to ensure your spot in the draw (one entry per account, please).
Ooh, but wait! There's even more!!!
Do you remember I mentioned earlier in the week that I was having a tidy of my inbox? The invitation (and encouragement!) to nudge your outstanding Artist Pay is still open, but today I am asking you to bump up PMs pertaining to Lunarii switches. That means if you picked up the wrong Lunaris for the month and you're still waiting on me to swap 'em around for you, point yourself to my inbox sharpish!
Phew! Okay! That's everything - probably! Who knows! Yay! Exclamation marks!
Thank you for the background, Shaylmesse!
Just smell those new pages!

My favorite book comes from a series by Anne Bishop called the Black Jewel Trilogy. Originally it was three books, but she branched it out more. Its a fantasy book and a little... dark (maybe?) at that (some of the main characters' names are: Daemon, Lucivar, and Saetan), and has some sexual content (but doesnt go so far into detail that its distasteful), so if you are looking for PG, you might want to steer clear. I think it is written at a good level, and the characters have plenty of depth and there is a rich environment. Ive read this series many times over, to the point even I had to rebuy a few of them because they were so worn (even though I have kept all the copies of the book I have owned).

I love the Kay Scarpetta novels!
But a novel by the name of "The Vendetta Defense" is also a very worthy read.

If you like fantasy novels, I'd recommend The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini (a.k.a. the Eragon books XD). The writing style is lovely, the plot itself is very interesting, and everything is described very well. Plus there are dragons, elves, and magic! What more is there to ask from a good book series? ХD But don't judge the book by the Eragon movie because the movie doesn't do the book any justice.

For Fantasy, well, I love all of Diana Wynne Jones' books to death, but I can't pick just one favorite. I heartily recommend them all, though--as you read more and understand how her universe works, it puts the others in a new light, even the ones that are at first seemingly unrelated.
My other favorite genre is science fiction and hands down my favorite scifi book is A Deepness In the Sky by Vernor Vinge. The bad guys are realistically/believably evil, the space-faring society is very interesting, as are the main characters, and the aliens are ACTUALLY ALIEN. I won't spoil what they're like, but they aren't Star Wars/Star Trek/other-pop-scifi could-be-played-by-humans-in-stage-makeup variety, and THEIR society and just AAAH. PLEASE. [the book this is a prequel to [A Fire Upon the Deep] and said other book's sequel [Children of the Sky] are also really good, with much of the good qualities of Deepness, but they don't strike quite the same chord with me.] [[also wow sorry this is so long/rambly.]]

I wouldn't expect myself to be saying this but I think my favorite book is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. It was required for school so I didn't really expect a lot out of it but I couldn't put it down! I just loved the way it was written - the way Bradbury left some of it up to the reader to figure out made the whole book really enjoyable. Not to mention I have to admit I'm really impressed with the way he was able to predict aspects of a futuristic society that have some rather surprising similarities to where society has come today. I guess overall the book just fascinated me. I really enjoy his writing style too lol. :)

AW MAN. BOOKS. BOOK RECS. YEEHAW. The Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop is AMAZING. Fantasy setting, magic, magical races, and women in the seat of power, I've yet to find anything that's really similar to it in any other books. Also wanna recommend these: The 'Novels of Tiger and Del' and the 'Cheysuli Chronicles' and 'Karavans' all by Jennifer Roberson, Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny, God's War by Kameron Hurley, Shanghai by David Rotenberg, and Empress by Shan Sa are all fantastic reads too. *flails*

Addendum to previous--of Diana Wynne Jones, a good place to start would be either "The Dark Lord of Derkholm" and her other book that inspired that, "The Tough Guide to Fantasyland" which isn't a novel but is hilarious in its own right; OR, if you're interested in the whole "how her universe works" thing, reading anything marked as a 'Chrestomanci' novel should do the trick. Also, the character that is the Chrestomanci is wholly delightful at any age. [and we see him at several, it's great! xD]

Oh gosh trying to pick just one book is so hard.
But lately I've been really loving the Ender's Game books, by Orson Scott Card. It's a sci fi series, set in the future and deals with earth preparing for another alien attack, with child geniuses being trained as soldiers. I really love the characters and the story and just how in depth and creative it all is. Also, I really love how it incorporates other alien species, and their different culture and whatnot (more so in the second book that the first)
So yeah the first is called Ender's Game.
Also it's going to be a movie coming out in November! I can't tell if it'll be any good based on the trailers, but I'm hoping!

Mine is To Kill A Mockingbird. I was forced to read it for class, but I ended up really enjoying it. It's my favorite book because I love how they handled racial issues and social class. I also love the prominent themes of growing up and what it means. There is so much to the book, I swear every time I re-read it I find some new theme or interesting part to think about. It's just a really good book for thinking and I really enjoy it!
