Yoo hoo! *waves hanky* It's me again with another special delivery!

Did you know that today is Book Lover's Day? No? Well, neither did I until Shaylmesse (#13314) brought it to my attention-- and I'm blushing to have to admit my ignorance, because there are few greater pleasures than curling up with a good book! If you're like me and would just love to have your own little personal library, why don't you try Shaylmesse's gift on for size?

The Book Lover's Background is available in the Advent Calendar for the duration of today and tomorrow, up until August 10th, 11:59pm.

Ooh, but wait! There's more!

Tell me your favourite book (and why!) in the comments and you could be in with a chance of winning this set of custom crystals! I'm in need of some good new holiday reads and I'm sure I can't be the only one. :3 Chime in by August 10th, 11:59pm to ensure your spot in the draw (one entry per account, please).

Ooh, but wait! There's even more!!!

Do you remember I mentioned earlier in the week that I was having a tidy of my inbox? The invitation (and encouragement!) to nudge your outstanding Artist Pay is still open, but today I am asking you to bump up PMs pertaining to Lunarii switches. That means if you picked up the wrong Lunaris for the month and you're still waiting on me to swap 'em around for you, point yourself to my inbox sharpish!

Phew! Okay! That's everything - probably! Who knows! Yay! Exclamation marks!

Thank you for the background, Shaylmesse!

Just smell those new pages!

OOOH thanks for the background! I love it and will be using it a lot when the semester starts :)

As for books, I really like the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin
They are my favorite books to date! But the first one, A Game of Thrones, really pulls you in!

Not so much a book as a series, I love Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. I do enjoy the later titles a bit more than the first two books, but it was still the first two that got me hooked and he's just gotten better since. It's all one interconnected series, but it could easily be viewed as four or five series all set in the same world with occasional interaction between characters. Each of the sub-series has it's own standard set of main and supporting characters, but it's quite common to see the characters from one group of books appear in supporting roles in the books focused on another set. They're humorous without being comedies; parodies of our world, of other tales and myths. They're easy to read and get caught up in as you follow some rather unlikely heroes (one of whom would much rather be bored out of his skull with lots of potatoes to eat than find himself having to save the world...again). Even though the series was written in chronological order, you can still jump in and start reading from any book, though you will miss some of the references if you read them out of order.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it taught me that life is not always as it appears and that there are many splendid amazing things just beyond our view and that poetry can be weaponized. 42

If you like books about crime, I recommend almost anything by patricia highsmith. She wrote strangers on a train which was made into a movie by hitchcock and the ripley series, which is also a great read. You could probably get a feel for whether or not you like her writing by reading some of her short stories first.
I've also been reading twenty thousand leagues under the sea haha, it's a very interesting adventure.
some of my childhood favourites are the neverending story and one hundred years of solitude, if you like long reads/haven't tried those. :)

Despite it being a children's series, I actually really enjoyed the Ranger's Apprentice series. It's very fun and cheerful and it doesn't try for any deep meaning where you have to think about how symbolic and deep it is. It's a series I can just sit down and enjoy when i'm bored and it's very good.

My favorite book has been The Hobbit since I was about 4yrs old. Its what got me into reading when I was older. It was my favorite bedtime story.

Dragon Champion, first of the Age of Fire series is probably still my favorite novel. It's fantasy, the main character is ACTUALLY A DRAGON, and dragons aren't evil/just for riding/any of that silly stuff. It's wonderfully written and stands by itself as it wasn't intended to be a series starter, just a standalone book.

Second place is tailchaser's song because cats.

One of the books I always suggest is White Horse by Alex Adams. It's a really interesting and different read, and I had a great, and somewhat creeped out time reading it. It made me stop and think a lot, and I enjoyed that, since not a lot of books actually make me do so. (: Good luck finding some good reads~

My favorite book is Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Both are fantastic authors. The book is about an angel and a demon and the end of the world, which doesn't immediately sound interesting until things start getting out of hand. Its witty and funny, and pokes fun at the weirder concepts of the Bible. A good read to be sure :D
