The jury's conclusion came.
#Will - 26
#Molly - 59
#Annie - 303
#Mackenzie - 26
#Ailith - 40
By an overwhelming majority, Annie was judged to be guilty. The oakl was still with shock, but as court security came to collect her, she bolted upright, and started yelling protests.
"No, I didn't do it!"
"I said exactly what you told me to say! You said we'd go free!"
But whoever she was talking to did not answer. Lester and Putman simply watched as the girl was removed from the town hall. The townspeople broke out in murmurs. Clearly there was more to this case than they had thought.
"I think I know how to get to the bottom of this..." Lester muttered to himself. Little did he know, the ears of the Mother Hound were nearby...
Lester marched out the front doors of town hall, and headed south towards downtown alone. All the suspects had grown up in the orphanage, and it was there where he would find the answers to his questions...

Remember, people, the real culprits have yet to be detected, much less apprehended. "Convicting" Annie - or any of the Jacks - was just a ploy to lull them and get them to tip their hand(s). No genuine trial would have gone forward with so little actual evidence...this was not just about one murder, but a planned series of crimes with a unifying ulterior motive as yet undisclosed.

Honestly, i'm not surprised everyone convicted Annie. It seems as though the result would be basically the same no matter who was convicted, though. Does anyone have any thoughts on the actual connection between the livers/hounds/cult?

Singingbadger's got this down - we're using her 'conviction' to find the real culprit. They may have been under our nose the entire time - "I said exactly what you told me to say! You said we'd go free!" as she was dragged away? It's doubtful that she was yelling to one of the Jacks...

Well, he's in real trouble now that the "mother hound" has him in her sights. Whether he even reaches the orphanage is debatable. He'll probably be the next body found, sad luck. (loving the story!)

Hrmm. I have a little niggle that Putman might be a Cultist. :| Could be utterly wrong.
