How many of you would like explore pets to retire from their areas after a certain amount of time (available only through Truly Random Eggs, Glittering Rocks, and so forth)?

The benefit to this would be making it easier to locate new pets in the explore regions, of course, if the older ones get retired on a schedule! As well as older colorations should become more valuable.

I think it would be great! It would really encourage people to make more site pets, and I mean, going to a new region there's no reason to catch pets sometimes because their just so cheap in shops. I would love to see more new site pets coming out more often! :D

What about really new people who join just before the yearly retirement goes through? Or the 3 month retirement, or whatever happens? In the long run I really see this becoming a problem for newer players. (If you want to catch them all, prepare to get a /lot/ of eggs and glittery rocks.)
As far as the seasonal rotation thing goes, it really isn't a temporary solution. Would it be so hard to make newer areas to go along with the seasonal rotation? As long as you make new areas to compensate for the newer pets, it is a permanent solution as far as I can see. There could even be contests, like there was recently, to design a new area.

I don't think new players are going to suffer for retired pets, as long as there are new ones to catch. And older players would have some incentive to go back to adventure or hatch random eggs. Plus it makes it less boring to go to adventure for items if you can also catch a new pet in the process.

Granted right now we have a huge backlog, but how many pets are added yearly now that it's in a rhythm?

I think it's 6 every other week, so 144 a year? Is ~144 - 288 pets enough to even keep people interested? Pretty sure you can catch that in a week if you're super slow about it. Maybe slightly more if you somehow manage to never get your hands on a high energy pet.

Second the concerns about UR/HR/LRs too, since those would just be absurd. Maybe add in a "victory road" type area once you Master all other areas that those 3 rarities can "retire" to. Put some fancy looking hybrid colorations that live there to flesh out the VC/UC/etc so it's not a cakewalk to UR+, otherwise it's the only place to get retired UR+. -shrug-

I already posted it on poll's comment page, but I figured out I could post it here as well if people won't bother to check comments there.

I think retiring is a great idea. If all these pets still will be available through eggs and glittering rocks - so not impossible to get; it would be great. Their value will increase, and they'll become more desirable cause of it. Also, it'll be profitable for offsite traders and traders in general, as pets will be more valuable than they're now.

When I was a newbie, I don't recall ever being distressed over retired pets. There were pets that could no longer be obtained through explore/shops (seasonal areas, pet shops, etc.). I remember being even more excited when I did get one of those pets through eggs or TGR. Maybe I was a weird newbie but I don't think it would really be as horrible for them as people are making it out to be. 80-90% of the adventure pets that I have now are from eggs. It's very easy to get eggs and, even if it takes time, it's entirely possible to get tons of different adventure pets.

So I think as long as the pets are still available from other means (lesser/Ray guns, Random/truly random eggs, random pet potions, Tiny/glittering rocks, mind control helmets, and other users) The supply would be just fine. And personally, I think it would make the pets and the site more appealing. I've seen tons of newbies posting sales/pricing threads asking about site pets that are "rare" or "ultra rare" or whatever and I think its a bit depressing when they find out their pet isn't really worth anything at all.

I hate the idea of removing or rotating the pets. I don't do much else on the site aside from Adventure and selling items, and I love having such a large pool of pets that I can catch and giveaway at my leisure. Plus, like Honeycutt said, it's nice that people who don't have a steady income on Aywas (and Newbs) to not have to worry about getting gouged on older pets in Adventure. It's hard enough with all the monthlies. Don't get me wrong, I love the monthlies and the event pets, but it's also nice having pets that will always be available and available to everyone.

I don't like the idea of retiring pets at all. This site already has a lot of pets that have been retired and get retired all the time from shops, events and such. To add more will make it even harder for newbies to catch up. I can say from experience that it is damn hard to get a Legendary Rare from TREs, whereas finding new pets in a certain area is not so hard if you use items like pet flutes, Aynips and Clover Stones, for example.
I don't even see why the number of pets in a certain area could reach a problematic amount, to be honest. It makes you actually work for your stuff and take some effort instead of reducing it to the random chance the eggs give you.
If you are really bothered by the amount of pets in some regions (I'd assume the Fields and Rainforest are the worst offenders here), why not split these into two areas each? Some of the creatures in the rainforest are not tropical anyway and would be better placed in a deciduous forest region, and you can always split in something like northern and southern forest or some such. That instantly halves the creatures in those areas and still gives everyone the chance to get those pets in the future without adding yet more pressure on getting stuff before it vanishes.

I like it, so long as they are still obtainable through REs and TREs. Consider how even older event pets that are unavailable through any other means are still not very expensive much of the time. And eggs aren't that hard to get a hold of either. 6 months seems too soon to collect the number of replacement pets IMO. But the year would be reasonable.

Retiring adventure pets is a horrible, not to mention damaging, idea. Aywas is _not_ like other pet sites where this action could possibly be feasible.

Basically, unless the site desperately needs the bandwidth, or server space, or whatever these older pets are supposedly taking up, don't retire them. Or, get ready for Aywas to become a very different place than what players know now.
