Tokens + Custom Reminders

Site Update

magic_metalcustomcoin.gifmagic_bronzecustomcoin.gifmagic_bluecustomcoin.gifmagic_goldcustomcoin.gif

The Custom Tokens in the Trash Shop have been given a serious price bump. I know price increases are never fun, but I think we can all agree that being able to get a pet with 75% edits for 1 GP isn't quite right.

And while I'm here, I'd like to remind everyone that glows, transparency, and clipped on accessories/clothing still count as edits, and thus are not allowed on Metals.

This pet is okay for Metal:

These pets, however, would NOT be okay:

I'd also like to make sure everyone knows that the Personal Custom Queue now allows you to cancel your own pet submissions! If you submit an image only to realize you submitted the wrong image, had a white background, coloring errors, or any other mistake, you can cancel it yourself instead of having to PM me.

I... am not amused by the huge price change. I mean I understand that it needs to be increased, but by that much? o_O;; It's a little crazy. Or heck, start out with a pretty normally priced metal custom token, and increase by larger increments every time % edits increase? It seems more logical that way.

Also, all the hate everywhere. o.o;;

I sort of understand, because I literally do not have the time to be trashing items at a pace that I can trash things on Aywas right now; student, here, but seriously there's no need for people to angrehface all over each other. =___=;;

One step forward, two steps back.

I've been on this site for nearly two and a half years, I have many customs, and I currently have premium. I find the though that "I had it tough when I got my first custom, so all the newcomers should have it tough, too" more than a little silly. It took me more than a year to get my first custom here on Ayways, and she cost me a fortune in savings. I would have adored to be able to get that long, sought-after custom sooner, as it seemed that there was a portion of the site that was an old boy's club that had many customs and lots of money that I couldn't get into.

The truth of the matter is that yes, it is a LOT easier to get your first custom today than it was two years ago. A while lot easier. But the increases in custom prices and childish behavior concerning them is inappropriate. If I'd been able to get that first custom earlier, and then played off of that, bought more customs, sold more, and been more invited into that boys club, I would have loved this site a lot more. Now that I'm a part of that club and can afford to purchase customs whenever I choose, I find these sudden increases deeply irrational. This change will, without other changes to go along with it, directly harm non-premium users, which are most often the newer and poorer users.

And of course, everyone here should have to work to get their first custom. But they shouldn't have to work for a whole year. No one wants freebies and empty prizes handed to them on silver platters. People want reasonable goals that they can work towards and actually reach. I would only hope that some of the fantastic suggestions that have been suggested in the news here can be taken into account to make this possible.

"But they shouldn't have to work for a whole year."

If you adventure every day for a little while it would take roughly one month with the 100 a day trash ability to get a gold level custom token. This isn't unreasonable from my viewpoint when it took a year for me to get my -first- custom. It may not have the need to be -that- difficult but a month? Doesn't seem very unreasonable, it gives the users time to familiarize themselves with the site and get better customs out of it. ~Ryu

Kait Rorden, that was, simply put, fantastic. Thank you. You put some of my thoughts that I couldn't type in perfect words!
(On a side note, I do hope no one takes offense to my first comment. I tried to make it non-offensive and not childish, but if I do offend anyone/seem childish, I do dearly apologize.)

I definitely agree that working an entire year (except for perhaps the extremely casual Aywas player) is too much to ask for an Aywas custom, too. I just simply don't think anyone has the right to demand custom creating items be in a certain price range because that's what they can afford. I also don't think anyone has the right to demand the access to creating customs, period. Customs are not vital to enjoying this site.

I respect and understand that Token pets were easily accessible and cheap. Now, they're not so much. (Heck, I even need to get to work because I have a gold token pet I need to make.) And I agree that the price hike seems a little too steep. But there's a lot of exaggeration and puffery going around right now, which to me is simply more ridiculous than the price hike. It won't take a whole year to get a gold custom token, if that's what you're after. It definitely doesn't take a whole year to afford getting a custom pet if you're not as choosey to what item you create with (CC, OC, Metals especially). This change does not suddenly "shut out" "newbies" and "poor people" and the people who "don't have time/money to get customs." It simply increases the accessibility curve for a select type of pet.

Again, I agree that customs are one of Aywas' key selling points (heck, one of the main reasons I stay), but I don't think anyone has a right to afford one. Aywas is one of the few sites you can get custom pets without sinking real money into the site (none of us, for instance, on this account have spent a dime, just hours of exploring, selling, and doing art, and we have over 100 customs in addition to some some pretty nifty stuff), and that's worth merit in and of itself. It's going to take all of us more time to get custom tokens now. We all have to work toward our goals here, and while that may take some users more time than others, or require different methods than others. But there are plenty of ways and methods for us all to get what we dream of, and there is no intent to make some users "suffer" because they may have a harder time getting a custom.

Please, let's just stop the false dichotomy of "haves" and "have nots" in this debate. Everyone works for what they want on this site. Everyone has goals. Sometimes those goals become harder to reach, because staff sees they're too easy to reach. I'd rather have balance than pout about a little more work to get what I want.-Nomad

@Sylverwyng: Clipped on jewelry and other edits are considered still being line edits. That has been in the custom rules (https://www.aywas.com/forum/topic/163101/) for some time now. Some pets have and do slip through (I managed to squeak a "wing edit" through once on Skitty's approval on a metal), but that doesn't make the rule invalid or non-existent.

Thanks, Damion, I appreciate it. :) Ryu, you're right, if it took a month for a user to get a custom, that would be completely reasonable. Unfortunately, most of the items that are available for dumping (cannot be used for cooking, are extras from cooking, are adventure items) are not worth the 5 points that it would require to get that 500 points per day in order to achieve the gold token in one month. And that would be even if the user were able to find 100 dumpable items in one day. I do agree that a month, even two or three, for a new user is reasonable for their first custom, as it does give them time to become acquainted with the site, and that is a vital step in being able to make that first custom. However, it would realistically take much longer than that with the current dump limits and low item values. This change would, indeed, be much needed if it were implemented with other changes that would help some users from being now stuck in their goal. Also, Sylverwyng, I think it's because the jewelry edits count as part of the edit percentage, and since the eye lines and chest fluff count for part of the 5% metal limit, no more is allowed. Not completely sure though.
