God we are so unloved and hated sawb sawb
Out of all the crystals bought from the GP Shop, the GCC is probably the most unloved, with SCCs and BCCs far more loved than them. As an experiment, I'd like to make a special offer (for the month, depending on how it goes): Gold Custom Crystals bought from the GP Shop will come with a free gold-level design.
You won't get full control of the complimentary design (to prevent it being stressful on the new GCC artist team) but you'll get to put some input into what kind of design you want by being offered this form to fill out:
Species:
Keyword: Just one word! Zombie, steampunk, space... anything you want.
2-3 Colors:
The new GCC team is excited to get working and I have a method to track GCCs bought from the GP Shop, so expect a PM in your inbox if you purchase a GCC, and I hope you enjoy your complimentary design. If you don't like your design, it's still yours so you can sell it if you want :)

Just curious.. But will the complimentary design JUST be the design, then we have to submit it with the said crystal we purchased? Or will we purchase the crystal, and the staff will upload the custom to our account like with special event customs?

You just get a design, but you can decide whether you want to submit it or not.

It's a cool idea, but I have to agree with others: it's not a lack of design that puts me off GCC, it's purely pricing.

I have to agree about the pricing really. Not saying it should be lowered...I'm just saying it's why I have 2 gold designs I haven't bought crystals for yet (And why I haven't bought any more designs). ;) Good to know I could potentially sell the free design though. :) - V
