Shelter Hearts

Items

The Shelter Hearts event is nearing its end. You have twenty four hours left to purchase a Shelter Hearts item. Remember, 50% of proceeds made from this item go toward West Suburban Humane Society, the shelter I got my cat from.

You have, as a userbase, purchased 89 Shelter Hearts. If you purchase 125 Shelter Hearts, I'll donate 75% of the proceeds to the shelter. If you manage to purchase a total of 150 Shelter Hearts, I'll donate 100% of the proceeds to the shelter (meaning $1500 total).

I do wonder why there's the difference between the endangered animals event and this one... for that one, all the proceeds went to the charities, and you could even pick which charity to give to. Plus there were multiple linearts available... It just seems like this event is a little bit thrown together compared to that one. Sure, we can still give directly to the charity of our choice, but we aren't getting the incentives for it. *shrug*

There should never HAVE to be an incentive to donate if one really cares about the cause. Hence why I've donated locally rather than to this event because I didn't need to pet inventive, but am always happy to help. Same for all the donations I give to Saint Jude's completely separate of donation events.

And I really, really dislike the statement implying that someone who donates is "a spoiled rich kid". I won't even comment on that part further.

There's been complaining on all sides I think, which isn't productive, but it has it's place. You can't blame people for having those feelings. When it comes to something like donating to a cause, people tend to have high expectations. A lot of the people around me are very rescue-oriented, devote blood, sweat and tears to the cause, and when I see larger organizations taking a cut of the donations they get from the general masses (I'm talking about the large scale corporate-types that take advantage of impulse donators), I get frustrated. Think of all the money from advertising and lobbying that could be better spent on good caused. It hurts me inside. Anyways, I don't think anyone was badgering Slash to change, just putting out their feelings on the matter.

I have a bad habit of not proofreading as well. I assume everyone is literate despite little mistakes because of my own faults, haha!

How long does it take to get the Shelter Hearts?

Seems kind of strange to me that you're only willing to donate 100% if so many are bought? I don't know, it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense logically speaking. More pets bought = more cost to the site yet a higher percentage given to the shelter? Why not just give 100% to begin with? :-/

It's obvious as to why Linksage. Slash is HOPING more people will donate. The later incentive was most likely brought up because he hoped to get a bit more to give to the shelter. He wanted more to give than what he got and simply is imploring for it in a way that he hoped would put the concerns of all the people upset about the 50% to rest in hopes they too would help out. It's an obvious choice in such a situation. 8/
Why is it so hard for people to see that? It makes perfect sense to me. We have donation drives for autism at my work all the time and there's always "bigger" prizes for the amount.

From a "business" standpoint, at a certain amount it would also negate the taxes for the site, which is why the cost of it all would be most likely an easy thing to let go in exchange for the larger tax break.
Neither of which are bad things. And Slash, I'm sorry to bring up the "b-word" as this is your hobby, not your job.
It would be nice to see it extended, but at least the message is still out there that plenty of shelters need help. I know the one you're donating to will be happy from whatever you give them and to know they were thought of by people that they will never meet.

And @Kaiten, I'm not sure where someone was complaining about people NOT being able to donate. I know I never intended to sound like that and I apologize if I made you feel that I was. I was upset by people's attitudes about the whole thing only. If you don't have it now but still want to help then you can always donate later, either of money or time. But the one calling those who were a "snotty rich kid" really upset me.

well Ihope people are not biting and snarling on the fact i commented I hope i could get my money in time to donate and be a "spoiled rich kid" I was actually poking at the original person that said that...twice. I DO NOT keep monies on paypal and never ever will. I only ever put monies on that system if I HAVE to for things like this. And its a stretch for me. I have my own cat rescue, that digs money out of my own pockets every week, so 10-20 bucks for me is a HUGE swing. And this month I can only do it if my money hits my bank account in time. I never have money just sitting around waiting for me to plop it into paypal.
So thus my comment on snotty rich kids, not toward others who do anything here, just the one who posted that originally. But I also forget people often jump to conclusions no matter how wide and impossible the jump. I hate explaining myself and feel like I'm chasing my tail here. So there it is take it...or leave it with a spoonful of sugar or salt its up to you.

Not at all Tiki, as you were obviously poking fun at the other person who said it first. You were not one of the ones that upset me.
Though I don't have money I keep on paypal either, but I have it linked to specific cards/accounts.(actually, if you want to be safest, you can link it to a refillable visa debit card).
